Expanding their Vancouver team, they are on the lookout for a strategic, technically skilled Commercial Underwriter. This role isnt about cookie-cutter underwriting its about navigating complex risk landscapes, designing tailored insurance solutions, and driving meaningful growth.If you're someone who enjoys digging deep into data, crafting creative coverage strategies, and building strong broker relationships this role offers both the challenge and the autonomy you're looking for.Your Key ResponsibilitiesUnderwrite and price mid to large commercial accounts across industries such as construction, real estate, logistics, and manufacturingAnalyze complex risk submissions, including financial statements, loss history, and exposure dataCollaborate with brokers to customize policy wording, develop layered coverage programs, and explore specialty endorsementsBalance growth and profitability across your portfolio, with a focus on the Western Canada marketPartner with actuarial and product teams to define and refine risk appetite and pricing strategyMonitor emerging trends, industry shifts, and competitor activityMentor junior team members and contribute to process improvements and underwriting best practicesWhat You Bring47 years of commercial underwriting experience, ideally within an insurer or MGA environmentStrong technical expertise in P&C products, program structuring, and risk evaluationProven ability to underwrite complex, multi-layered accountsSkilled communicator who can negotiate with brokers and clearly explain underwriting decisionsGeneral Insurance license (Level 1 or higher) is an assetProfessional designations such as CIP, CRM, or FCIP (completed or in progress) are considered strong assetsProficient in underwriting platforms and Excel, with the ability to extract and apply data insightsWhy Join This TeamCompensation: $100,000 $125,000 base salary dependent on experience, plus performance bonus, benefits, and hybrid flexibilityWork for an insurer with national reach and regional autonomy youll be empowered to make decisionsManage sophisticated accounts without the bureaucracy of a large corporate environmentEnjoy hybrid flexibility and a culture that values collaboration and expert judgmentGain direct access to senior leadership and opportunities to influence portfolio strategyClear, supported career progression toward Senior Underwriter or Underwriting ManagerIf youre ready to take on high-value accounts and shape risk solutions with both analytical precision and relationship savvy this is the opportunity for you.Only candidates already eligible to work in Canada will be reviewed.
