We proposed, lobbied for, and won Canadas new Employee Ownership Trust (EOT) legislation in 2024. As the most knowledgeable business service providers in the Canadian employee ownership space, were helping mid-sized companies across the country to implement the legislation and transition their businesses to employee-owned.Currently, we are seeking a passionate full-time Business Development Manager to join our team. This role focuses on identifying business owners interested in selling to their employees and supporting prospective clients who are considering an EOT. The ideal candidate will have an excellent understanding of Canadas EOT legislation, strong relationship-building skills, and a commitment to preserving local businesses while creating wealth-building opportunities for Canadian workersKey ResponsibilitiesBusiness Owner Outreach & EducationIdentify and engage business owners who may be candidates for employee ownership transitionsEducate owners on Canadas EOT legislation and the benefits of employee ownershipDevelop and maintain relationships with business owners, particularly those nearing retirement or planning their successionConduct initial assessments to determine EOT feasibilityPipeline Development & ManagementBuild and maintain a robust pipeline of potential EOT candidatesQualify prospects based on financial performance, ownership readiness, and cultural fitTrack engagement and conversion metrics using CRM systemsDevelop targeted outreach strategies for specific industries and geographic marketsMarket Development & NetworkingBuild relationships with referral sources including banks, attorneys, accountants, financial advisors, succession planners, and business brokersRepresent the company at industry conferences, business owner events, and professional association meetingsDevelop partnerships with organizations promoting employee ownership (EOC, TEA, NCEO, Oxford Symposium, etc.)Stay current on employee ownership trends, legislation, and best practices in Canada and around the worldDeal SupportCollaborate with transaction teams to move qualified prospects through the conversion processSupport preliminary feasibility studies and financial analysisCoordinate with attorneys, valuation firms, and other professional service providersCultivate and maintain client relationships pre-onboarding, during pauses, and post-transactionThought Leadership & Content DevelopmentContribute to educational content including case studies, white papers, and presentation materialsConduct and support webinars, workshops, and educational events for business owners and other stakeholdersParticipate in industry publications and speaking opportunitiesHelp develop marketing materials specific to employee ownership benefitsDevelop and iteratively improve the companys process and services to achieve higher levels of excellenceRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree (minimum) in Business, Finance, Economics, or related field7-10 years experience in business development, M&A, relationship management, or professional servicesStrong understanding of employee ownership structuresExperience working with business owners and understanding succession planning challengesProven track record of building and maintaining client relationships, problem-solving for the client, and generating new businessExcellent communication and presentation skills, clear and empathetic, strong attention to detailSelf-motivated with ability to work independently and manage territory/pipelineWhite-glove service oriented, loves to help others and takes pride in doing it well, takes ownership for their work and resultsPreferred Qualifications4+ years experience serving mid-market owners or C-suite executivesPrevious experience with similar transactions and governance structuresBackground in investor relations, investment banking, business brokerage, corporate finance, or management consulting preferredExperience with Hubspot or similar CRM platformsNetwork of professional relationships in target marketsBilingual or advanced fluency in French is an asset, but not requiredIndustry Knowledge RequirementsUnderstanding of EOT feasibility criteria and transaction processKnowledge of tax benefits and financing options for employee ownership structuresAwareness of regulatory requirements and compliance considerationsUnderstanding of employee ownership impact on business culture and operationsSkills and CompetenciesConsultative selling approach with ability to educate and advise prospectsStrong analytical skills to assess business suitability for employee ownershipExcellent interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivityPassion for employee ownership mission and valuesAbility to explain complex financial concepts in accessible termsStrong organizational and project management capabilitiesComfort with public speaking and presenting to groupsWhat We OfferCompetitive salary: $130,000 -
