Overview: The Quality Assurance Supervisor is responsible for assisting the Quality Manager in managing the QA Department and leading the QA Team in maintaining, organizing, and improving the Quality and Food Safety Programs and providing leadership and support to all staff within the QA Department. Shift: Afternoon Shift - 3pm to 11pm (with flexibility to work alternate hours) Direct Reports include: 2 QA Technicians Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to : Maintain companys Certified GFSI program: the BRC Global Standard for Food Safety. Maintain and improve the Quality Assurance Programs as required. Manage personnel and day-to-day running of the laboratory. Maintain written Company polices related to ensuring product quality and product safety and if necessary, add new polices that must be reviewed and approved by QA Manager or QA Director. Provide employee training related to GMPs and HACCP Program. Enforce GMPs in the Plant. Perform internal audits. Interface with Customers and Government Agencies as required during visits, inspections, and customer audits. Ensure proper implementation of various processes as they relate to formulation and processing procedures. Apply statistical Process Control (SPC) methods for analyzing data to evaluate the process control as monitored by Quality Assurance Department, as needed. Solve issues related to raw materials, ingredients, and process control. Investigate and respond to customer and consumer complaints as per the established Consumer Complaint Program. Initiate and help implement corrective action as a result of customer complaints and internal audits. Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCAs) with cross-functional teams when deviations occur and implement Corrective and Preventive Actions. Create and maintain multiple logs, track and trend data related to various QA activities. Evaluate new and existing suppliers of commodities, ingredients, cleaning chemicals, and packaging materials if necessary. Meet daily with the Operational departments to discuss incidents related to food safety and quality. Work to resolve procedural non-conformances, products on hold, compliance issues in a timely manner. Interact with suppliers, customers, and company personnel in all departments of all Trophy Plants - Production, Scheduling, Maintenance, Engineering, Marketing, Sales, Procurement, Warehouse, and Finance. Provide direction to operational teams whenever processes fall out of control. Keep the QA Director and Quality Manager abreast of significant issues or developments identified during course of daily activities with recommendations of corrective action to rectify situation. Lead continuous improvement initiatives with respect to GMPs and Food Safety with all plant departments. Contribute to continuous improvement of existing processes and products. Other duties as assigned by Quality Manager or QA Director. Experience, Qualifications, and Educational Requirements: Bachelor of Science (Food Science, Microbiology) or diploma/degree from related discipline. 5 years of food industry experience including 3 years of supervisor experience preferred. Must be trained in at least one GFSI Benchmarked food safety standard (BRC preferred) and have experience implementing and managing food safety systems in a food manufacturing environment. Knowledgeable in understanding the Food & Drug Act and Regulations, Consumer Packaging & Labeling Act & Regulations, and Nutrition Labeling Regulations is an asset. Must have HACCP qualification (ideally advanced level). Must have internal audit training. Must be competent in using standard computer software packages including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, flow chart programming, label programming. Ability to read and interpret documents such as Food and Drug Act and Regulations, Consumer Packaging & Labeling Act & Regulations, and other procedure manuals dealing with Food Laws (domestic and foreign).
