The Manager will be responsible for developing and executing government relations strategies and plans, monitoring relevant issues and recommending responses and risk mitigation measures, as well as overseeing the Companys media relations function. The Manager will collaborate with the Director, Stakeholder and Industry Relations, business partners, and industry stakeholders to design and implement advocacy initiatives and engage elected officials in support of the companys strategic priorities. The Manager will lead the companys broader government relations efforts, including issues monitoring, drafting white papers, briefing materials, and speaking notes for senior leaders; and assisting with position and strategy development on emerging issues, legislation, and government/parliamentary/committee work while actively engaging with and building relationships with elected and non-elected government officials.Job DescriptionWhat NAV CANADA offers you:Challenging, team-oriented work environmentCompetitive compensation and benefitsDefined benefit pension planOpportunities for growth and developmentFlexible work arrangementsDiverse and inclusive workforceIn this role you will:Lead/support the development of government relations strategies and tactics in cooperation with the Director, Stakeholder and Industry Relations, internal business partners, and leaders.Draft position papers and statements, plans, presentations, briefing notes, speaking notes, and other materials in support of government engagement activities by executive management.Participate on sector specific cross-functional teams to represent NAV CANADA.Work with internal cross-functional leads to ensure government relations strategies are in alignment with business objectives and ensure effective execution in collaboration with complementary functions.Monitor, analyze, and report on the external environment including governmental discourse, announcements, policies, regulations, or legislation and identify topics of interest and issues that may impact the business.Draft correspondence for federal, provincial, and municipal levels of government.Work in partnership with senior management to identify opportunities to foster constructive relationships with elected officials.Lead government and stakeholder mapping activities in support of company initiatives and government relations planning.Administer and serve as a primary contact for the companys external government relations counsel, leveraging capabilities and intelligence to enhance relations and improve outcomes.Build the companys profile as a thought leader in the industry policy environment.Serve as a spokesperson or support subject matter experts in external meetings with government and policy influencers and establish relationships with key bureaucratic decision makers and influencers.Supervise and manage media relations activities, including management of two (2) direct reports and development of associated strategies and messaging.Serve as media spokesperson on key issues, and support after-hours media line monitoring and response.What you bring:Education:University degree in political science or a related field.Experience:At least 5 years of government relations, public affairs, and/or public policy experience.Experience developing and executing on public affairs/government relations strategies.Experience leading government, media, and stakeholder relations initiatives.Experience working in high-performance, multi-stakeholder teams.Experience within federal, provincial, or municipal government, trade associations, and/or corporations preferably with experience on issues affecting the transportation sector.Experience in crisis communications.Knowledge:Strong knowledge of municipal, provincial, and federal systems of government and associated legislative and committee processes.Strong knowledge of communications best practices, planning, tactics, and tools.Strong knowledge of media relations.Knowledge of public consultation methods.Knowledge of airspace management, airport management, airlines, or aviation is an asset.How others describe you:Strong ability to understand technical topics and convey complex information to non-technical audiences.Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.Ability to manage large-scale projects with multiple stakeholders as well as handle multiple priorities and meet tight timelines.Thrives in a challenging, fast-paced and team-oriented/matrix environment.Ability to understand, use, and communicate specialized information to internal and external stakeholders.Political acuity, tact, and diplomacy.Strategic thinker with an ability to work across functions and amongst stakeholders with varied interests.Strong organizational, project management, and time management capabilities with strong attention to detail.Working Conditions:This position is based at the Ottawa Head Office and is a hybrid position with a minimum 1 day per week on site.
