We are a proud equal opportunity employer, committed to a diverse and inclusive workforce.Come explore what makes us one of BCs Top Employers!ResponsibilitiesPRIMARY PURPOSEDevelops and maintains comprehensive environmental management systems for British Columbia Rapid Transit Company (BCRTC) and West Coast Express (WCE), ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and advancing sustainability initiatives. Supports regulatory compliance and alignment with environment standards across BCRTC, WCE and across the TransLink Enterprise.Key AccountabilitiesDevelops, implements and maintains comprehensive environmental management systems to ensure compliance with environmental regulations for both BCRTC and WCE.Stays current with industry best practices and trends and participates in external organizations when required.Facilitates the development and implementation of sustainability frameworks, methodologies, tools, processes, and procedures, and provides technical leadership on sustainability metrics, analytics, and reporting.Oversees environmental legal compliance by monitoring and enforcing permits, acting upon legal orders, and developing emergency response plans. Identifies environmental risks and establishes appropriate measures, implements programs and policies, and performs compliance reviews. Acts as primary contact for various regulatory, regional and municipal authorities, and special interest groups.Oversees the investigation of environmental complaints and incidents, identifying root causes and offering solutions to prevent recurrence.Assists the Director in preparing the departmental budget and supporting related initiatives.Leads or supports emergency response related to high-profile incidents, including labour disruptions and major disasters for both BCRTC and the TransLink Enterprise, including support to the Executive Emergency Policy Group, activation and participation in BCRTC Emergency Operation Centre and the Enterprise Emergency Coordination Centre.Acts as the Energy Manager and develops, delivers, and maintains the energy management program to monitor energy consumption and greenhouse gas production, and maximize energy efficiency.Promotes and educates management and staff on regulatory requirements pertaining to environment management.Develops and manages critical relationships with key stakeholders, including project sponsors, leads and operating company personnel. Actively participates in various program and project committees, fostering collaborative information sharing, problem solving and decision-making with project managers and other key stakeholders across the enterprise.Manages staff, providing leadership for recruitment, selection, training, motivation, performance management, development, discipline, termination and all other people management practices.QualificationsEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :Completion of a university degree in Environmental Science or related field such as Engineering, Biological, Chemical or Earth Sciences. Additional courses or certification related to Energy Management and Environmental Management Systems.ExperienceSix (6) years of progressive experience in environmental management in the public sector.Other RequirementsStrong interpersonal, writing, communications and leadership skills to liaise with staff across the Enterprise, to participate in committees and teams, and to liaise with government agencies and other stakeholders.Solid knowledge of the concepts, principles, practices, and techniques pertaining to environmental sustainability.Solid working knowledge of applicable legislation, regulations and best management practices.Strong planning and organizational skills to plan, develop, and implement multiple projects or programs and to support Enterprise-wide efforts to coordinate safety, environment and emergency management. Solid time management skills to balance and coordinate effort across multiple, concurrent activities and manage priorities to meet tight deadlines.Strong project management abilities and solid problem solving and decision-making skills to identify innovative approaches and recommended solutions to mitigate risks to business.Solid technical skills in Microsoft Office software including Excel, PowerPoint, and project management tools.Other InformationRecruitment Process : An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. A standard interview format will be used including general, scenario and behavioural descriptive interview questions.Work Schedule37.5 hours per week.Work DesignationResidentThis position works predominately on-site.Rate of PayThe salary for this position ranges from $97,600 - $146,400 per annum. Actual salary offered will be based on education, experience, skills, and qualifications as they relate to the role.We aim to provide competitive pay that reflects your professional background and expertise.
