Synergy Projects Ltd. is looking for a Foreman to join our team! This position will be based out of Edmonton, Alberta. We are a commercial construction firm in the Edmonton area, with a number of current projects under way, including, light industrial, commercial office, retail and tenant improvement work. The Foreman will be responsible for ensuring that everything goes smoothly at a construction site. They are responsible for being the point of contact between the construction workers and supervisors. A few of the main duties of a foreman are coordinating tasks for the day, creating schedules for workers, oversee quality of the site. **The Company:** Synergy Group of Companies (SGC) comprises of Synergy Projects, Innerspaces, Morley Hoppner, and SynVest. We provide commercial construction solutions to our clients, including major/structural construction, tenant improvements, and DIRTT prefabricated interior solutions. **Summary of Position:** Assist in supervising trade employees assigned to a particular construction discipline work area, e.g., carpentry, labourer, steel erection and self-perform work., etc. The Foreman reports to the Project Superintendent or Designate. Forman may also be responsible to perform and manage carpentry forms of work. **Duties and Responsibilites:** * Works with field management and implements SGCs safety program and maintains safety and record keeping requirements. * Supervise trade workers assigned to their area of responsibility, provide liaison between field engineering, estimating, and workers to ensure construction complies with drawings and specifications. * Supervise, directs, coaches, trains, and mentors the project team including direct and indirect reports. * Communicates effectively with own forces and trades and ensures performance, productivity, quality, and safety requirements are met. * Consistently collaborates with field management, construction/project manager and project team. Advises field management or project management of potential problems work interferences schedule difficulties, etc. * Contributes to the development and implementation of Project execution Plan and assists with resource-loaded three week look ahead schedules. * Monitors and executes the project construction plan and schedule. * Reviews and understands the contract and subcontracts, including understanding risk and risk mitigation plans. * Maintains project administration correspondence and complies with documentation requirements. * Assist in planning work schedule(s) and determining and maintaining manpower levels, material quantities, equipment requirements, etc. * Monitor work performance and productivity of trades to ensure project rules, procedures, safety requirements, etc. are maintained. * Complete employee timecards to accurately reflect hours worked. * Advise senior level superintendents and/or project management of potential problems, work interferences, schedule difficulties, etc. Assist in circumventing/resolving such problems as required. * Maintain liaison with other departments, I.e., purchasing, engineering, accounting, etc. as required, to support construction schedule. * Adhere to Synergys policies and procedures. * Willing to work out of town. * Perform safety inspections, orientations. * Other duties as required. * Apply Occupational Health & Safety Act, Regulation and Code and company safety policy related to all aspects of construction. * Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements. * Prepare layout in accordance with building codes and project specifications. * Maintain, repair, and renovate residential, commercial, and light industrial structures. * Perform other activities at construction sites, as directed. * Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel, concrete and other designated materials for structural and architectural components. * Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring and erect walls and roof systems. * Mix, pour, spread, level construction materials. * Perform construction/renovation/demolition activities. * Fit trim and install trim items, such as doors, stairs, cabinetry, molding and hardware. * Install architectural materials and components as required, flooring, wall coverings, etc. * Mix, pour, and spread construction materials. * Perform construction/renovation/demolition activities. * Erect and dismantle concrete forms, scaffolding, ramps, catwalks, shoring and barricades as required. * Operate equipment, secure special attachments to equipment, signal operators to guide them in moving equipment and provide assistance in other activities. * Perform and coordinate drilling and excavating activities at construction sites as required. * Level earth to fine grade specifications using rake and shovel * Coordinate and perform tasks for demolishing buildings using prying bars and other tools, and sort, clean and pile salvaged materials. * Remove rubble and other debris using rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows and other equipment. * Operate pneumatic hammers, vibrators and tampers as required. * Tend site machines or equipment used in construction such as mixers, compressors, pumps, and heaters. Perform basic maintenance related to their operation. * Clean up construction debris and remove materials to refuse container. * Oil and grease construction mobile powered equipment as required. * Direct traffic at or near construction sites. * Use a variety of tools and equipment to complete the assigned construction tasks. **Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience:** * Journeyman certificate or post-secondary diploma/engineering degree in related discipline. * Working towards NCSO designation and enrolled in the Gold Seal program as an intern preferred. * 3 years of experience in a lead had/foreman role preferred. * All knowledge and skill should be consistent with level of training and years of experience. * Basic computer knowledge and skills are required. (Word processing, spreadsheet & email) * Knowledge of the applicable methods and procedures involved in the safe handling and storage of construction equipment and supplies. * Ability to effectively supervise the daily ongoing activities of a workforce, attendance management. * Successfully supervised a construction workforce. * Skilled in the operation of materials handling vehicles and associated equipment. * Knowledge of construction industry and company operations, including building materials, construction specifications ,methods and procedures. * Understanding of project scope and ability to identify the critical path. * Understanding of productivity rates or own forces work, labor costing system reports and ability to interpret cost reports. * Ability to coordinate multiple scopes of a construction project, including scheduling and ,monitoring and coordinating own forces work and trade contracts with three-week look ahead. * Understanding of material, labor and equipment take offs. * Understanding of contract language with the ability to identify and mitigate risks and identify and leverage opportunities. * Knowledge of safety and environmental principles/procedures/legislation * Ability to lead and run effective site meetings with client, consultants, trades, own forces work and internal employees. * Demonstrated conflict resolution skills, problem solving abilities and professional judgement. * Working knowledge of and/or ability to learn Microsoft Office Suite and internal operational systems. * Familiar with an/or ability to understand virtual construction software. * Based on contract requirements and project size, direct and indirect reports may include hourly foremen and hourly staff. * This includes mentoring and coaching of more junior staff. **Working Conditions:** * Environmental aspects (weather, heights, etc.) play an important role for this position since one is often outdoors. Unusual or difficult problems are to be referred to his/her supervisor. * Working at multiple sites requires personal transportation.
