In Collaboration with the Orthopaedic clinic Team, the Orthopaedic Technologist organizes the workload and fulfils responsibilities of the position with a degree of autonomy within established guidelines, policies and procedure. Casting services are provided to both inpatients and outpatients in the clinic, patient areas and operating room.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIESResponsible for cast application, adjustments and removal.Repairing of casts and application of walking devices, bi valving, wedging and windowing of casts and traction.Removing dressings and assessing condition of the wound prior to cast application.Removal of sutures and pins relating to external fixation.Maintenance of Orthopaedic equipment and suppliesIndependently teaches patient/family care of cast, slab or brace and skinPerforms other duties as assigned by the Manager or delegate.QUALIFICATIONSPost-Secondary Orthopaedic Technology DiplomaCertification with the Canadian Society of Orthopaedic Technologists2 Years experience required (or an asset)Excellent interpersonal, communication skillsExcellent time management and organization skillsExcellent attendance recordDemonstrates commitment to exceptional customer service with patients, families, staff, colleagues and community partnersAbility to work as a member of a team as well as autonomouslyPrimary responsibilities also include:Safety (patient, worker & workplace) is a BCHS Corporate Priority.
