Job Summary and Requirements This posting This posting will be used to fill one (1) permanent full-time position working 75 hours bi-weekly. This job is based in the thriving and diverse city of Whitehorse in the beautiful Yukon . Who we are The Yukon Governments Health and Social Services is seeking an innovative and experienced financial executive with exceptional leadership skills to oversee the departments financial management and to partner with the senior leadership team to support financial and strategic objectives. This opportunity This Director, Finance reports to the Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM) of Corporate Services and requires a dynamic professional with exceptional technical expertise in financial resource management, coupled with a strategic focus on aligning financial operations with broader business planning priorities. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of financial legislative requirements and demonstrate a proven ability to craft executive-level strategies and implement operational best practices. The role is responsible for leading a high-performing team entrusted with delivering comprehensive finance and administration programs. Key responsibilities include overseeing departmental financial planning, accounting operations, controllership, reporting, and capital expenditure management. The position involves advising the Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM) and leadership team by providing strategic financial insights and business intelligence to support decision-making. Additionally, the role drives innovation and implements best practices across all financial and administrative functions to optimize operational efficiency and effectiveness. It also includes negotiating complex, large-scale funding agreements, managing related allocations, managing and reviewing management board submissions and developing robust financial, controllership, and administrative policies to uphold organizational excellence. A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in accounting, finance, economics, business administration, or a related discipline. Considerable experience may be considered as well. Considerable senior-level experience leading the financial function of a large, complex organization, ideally within the public sector or a highly regulated environment, demonstrating strategic vision and operational expertise. Considerable experience in financial management, including advanced knowledge of accounting, controllership, funding allocation, and financial planning processes, supported by a track record of delivering results in dynamic organizational contexts. Experience providing strategic advice to senior leadership, contributing to sound decision-making and long-term organizational success through comprehensive financial analysis and insights. Completion of a recognized professional accounting designation (e.g., CPA, CA, CMA) will be considered an asset.
