Conductor Position Overview As a Conductor, you will play a vital role in the railway''s operations. This position requires a strong focus on safety and attention to detail. You will work closely with the train crew to ensure the smooth operation of trains, including switching rail cars and making or splitting up trains in rail yards. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, be able to multitask, and possess a strong understanding of safety procedures and operating rules. They will also be willing to work unscheduled shift work, be away from home for extended periods, and work outdoors in various weather conditions. Key Responsibilities Work in either train or yard service depending on seniority Carry out specific instructions detailing a train''s route and specific movements Coordinate the switching of cars, including coupling and uncoupling cars and lifting out coupling device Observe, interpret, and relay signals and other indications affecting movement of train Maintain a thorough understanding of and follow General Code of Operating Rules (GCOR), general orders and bulletins Benefits and Training Opportunities This is a full-time, unionized position that offers competitive pay and benefits. The Conductor will receive 16 weeks of paid in-class and field training, providing a solid understanding of safety practices, rules, and operations. Upon completion, they will earn a salary of $85,000 in their first year.
