Our services are rooted in trauma-informed and harm reduction practices, assisting people at various stages of involvement in the criminal justice system.Elizabeth Fry Toronto (EFRY-T) is hiring a Bail Court Navigator for a unique pilot project in partnership with the Justice & Equity Lab at St. Michaels Hospital. This role is at the forefront of a three-year initiative to provide trauma-informed, gender-responsive support to justice-involved women with brain injuries (BI) at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre (TRBC). This is a hybrid role, providing court-based support and post-release case management in the community.Key ResponsibilitiesWork with women appearing at bail courtparticularly those who may have sustained a brain injury an often-overlooked population within the justice systemUse anti-oppressive and harm reduction approaches to help them understand legal processes, navigate court procedures, and connect with critical health and disability services, including brain injury diagnosis and care.Provide direct service and post-release case management in the community, helping stabilize clients as they transition out of custody.Collaborate with court actors, legal counsel, and community partners to identify and support individuals, reduce barriers to service access, and stabilize clients as they transition out of custody.Use BI screening tools and meet with clients pre- and post-bail hearings to provide support and education.Advocate for clients with legal, health, and disability service providers.Develop short-term case plans focused on stabilization and connection to brain injury resources.Assist clients with ODSP, DTC, CPP-D, and health-related paperwork and appointments.Deliver public education and act as a resource for court staff, lawyers, and health providers.Collaborate with researchers to collect data and evaluate the pilot programs outcomes.QualificationsEducation: Degree or diploma in Social Work, Justice Studies, Health Sciences, or a related field. Completion of Brock University Brain Basics is an asset.Experience: At least 3 years experience in case management, justice, or health systems. Should have experience of supporting marginalized women, especially in court or community justice contexts.Knowledge: Knowledge of ODSP, disability supports, healthcare navigation, the criminal justice system and its impact on women and non-binary people.Commitment: to trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, feminist, anti-racist, harm reduction practices and equity-driven work.Understanding: of the impact of brain injury on legal navigation and health access.Skills: Case Documentation and Management, Counselling and Client services.Technical: Client Information system update and tracking, and Microsoft 365.Communication: Strong communication, problem-solving, and crisis intervention skills.Availability: Comfort working in legal settings and with diverse, complex populations independently and collaboratively in a court-based setting.Languages: Bilingual in French or other languages is an asset.Travel: Ability to limited travel between offices and community locations as required.Clearances: Successful police background check is a condition of employment.Working Conditions:Hybrid role with regular presence at the TRBC, Ontario Court of Justice (OCJ) and community offices.May require court attendance, travel to appointments, and flexible scheduling.Engagement in dynamic, high-pressure settings involving legal and personal crises.How to ApplyPlease send your cover letter and resume in ONE document to by 5 P.M. on June 17 , 2025 Applicants must list Bail Court Navigator Brain Injury Pilot Project in the subject line of the email.
