Job Description

As a Portfolio Manager you will support the strategic development and day-to-day management of Manulife Wealths fee-based programs especially in our Advisor Managed Programs and Unified Managed Accounts. The team member works closely with rest of the Investment Product Research and Investment Program team members and plays a lead role in trading our centrally managed accounts. In the role you will collaborate with several internal teams including Operations Advisor Support Legal Compliance Marketing and others to support the daily management and regular deliverables of the fee-based programs.Additionally the role will serve as a licensed Supervising Portfolio Manager and support our lead supervising Portfolio Manager overseeing advisors managing client assets in Canada and the United States for Manulife Wealth & Manulife John Hancock Private Wealth to ensure accounts are managed according to the established program framework to drive an exceptional advisor and client experience.Overall the role will require you to be a fee-based program champion for internal stakeholders and advisors / assistants supporting daily trading activities and helping drive the strategic development of the programs.Responsibilities include :Support day-to-day management of fee-based programs including unified managed accounts and portfolio management activities for our advisors with clients in Canada and the US.Initiate trades in centrally managed accounts in response to sub-advisor trade recommendations client cash flow requests and any other managed account overlay activitiesMonitor orders for centrally managed accounts for timely and accurate executionWork with the Trade Desk to investigate and correct trading errors involving centrally traded accountsTrain new users on the portfolio management system and help users with modelling and trading questions and maintain relationship with our Envestnet partners to stay informed on platform initiatives and the roadmapReview and approve model portfolios submitted by Associate PMs suggesting changes or improvements where necessaryReview and approve Investment Policy Statements submitted by Associate PMs suggesting changes or improvements where necessarySuggest any necessary program enhancements because of engagement with advisors in the Advisor Managed ProgramPartner with key departments to develop new advisor-facing content that will support our product development goals including user guides policies & procedures videos e-learning content videoconferencing calls and moreSupport advisors by resolving complex issue escalations and identify opportunities to increase program adoption through various advisor engagementsProactively identify and engage with internal stakeholders on program enhancements and process improvement ideas based on advisor feedbackLead the production of program value-add / thought leadership content collateralMaintain the programs policies and procedures documentationRole requirements include :10 years of experience with fee-based programs and / or managed accounts strongly preferredFamiliarity with equity and fixed income trading is a plusExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to thrive in a fast-paced environmentAbility to create and deliver professional presentations internally and externally and answer routine and complex questionsStrong personal initiative and interpersonal skillsGeneral technical proficiency with a focus on core business applications such as Microsoft Office Dataphile and Portfolio Management ToolsEducationUniversity degree in business finance math statistics or a related area preferredCompletion of the Canadian Securities Course and Conduct and Practices Handbook Course preferredCompletion of the Trader Training Course would be an assetCIM or CFA designation would be an assetWhen you join our team :Well empower you to learn and grow the career you want.Well recognize and support you in a flexible environment where well-being and inclusion are more than just words.As part of our global team well support you in shaping the future you want to seeAbout Manulife and John HancockManulife Financial Corporation is a leading international financial services provider helping people make their decisions easier and lives better.
