The firm offers a full range of products for OEM, Aftermarket andretrofit markets for the reduction of exhaust emissions of on road, off-road and stationary diesel,gasoline and alternative fuel engines including propane and natural gas. The firms diesel oxidationcatalyst and diesel particulate filter products have been proven in the most severe conditions,including underground and open pit mining, tunneling, cargo handling, industrial and stationary powergeneration applications, urban transit, school bus and other on and off-road fleets.Our clients products help to ensure air quality, productivity, and of course employees health andsafety. With recent studies showing that harmful emissions from diesel engines are responsible forsevere heart and respiratory diseases, the firm is proud to provide its customers with diesel retrofittingsolutions that not only drastically lower toxic emissions, keeping customers safe around their dieselfueled vehicles and equipment, but also reduce the harmful impact on the environment as well.Scope of PositionThe Technical Manager/Director is responsible for the research and development tasks designed toimprove the firms current products while paving the way for new products. In addition, the individualand his/her team will provide technical support for both internal and external customers.The Technical Manager/Director will employ a range of design and engineering skills and processesto design and shape new products for a variety of applications. balancing innovative engineeringdesign and functional requirements, products will be designed to provide solutions and improvementswithin the market segment, raising awareness of company offerings. Other duties may include thecreation of improvements for existing products and the identification of potential increases inefficiency in product design. The work involves research, design, modeling, testing and production ofprototypes for brand new products, or making improvements to existing products. The role demandsan in-depth knowledge of materials production processes, market research and commercialawareness.Functional TasksSystem Product DevelopmentCoordinating with other R & E department heads to achieve companys goals and objectives as set out by the Leadership Team.Develop, implement,and maintain a System Roadmap in response to companys core strategy and long termcompany needs.Develop, implement and maintain the management of New System /Product Introduction process including the related documentation.When required, assist inthe product planning and technical research required for new products.Assist in productintroduction marketing programs and test market coordination with appropriate Marketingpersonnel.Confers with engineers, managers, customers, and others to discuss the project,repare documents, or modify contract schedules.Schedules due dates for drawings, specifications, software, technical manuals, and other documents.Monitors the status of theproject to ensure documentation is submitted according to schedule.Reviews and verifiesproject documents for completeness, format, and compliance with contract requirements.Submits project documentation to management for approval, and transmits approveddocuments to the customer.Applying costing and process design strategies in order toposition the company in the early stages of project development to increase the probability ofsuccessAssisting project managers and project engineers in the preparation of projectchange orders.Oversee on and off-site testing of new and existing product.Technical SupportProviding Applications Engineering support and maintaining a workingknowledge of all active projectsProviding support to the Supply Chain Manager thru testingand qualifying where appropriate key system components.Providing technical support todesignated Regional Sales managers Developing and maintaining relationships withRegional Sales Managers and Local RepresentativesAssisting Regional Sales Managerswith sales calls, design kick-off meetings and consultingTrain Sales Representatives,customers and other employees on technical matters relating to all products.Handlecorrespondence with customers and Sales Representatives on matters relating toapplications, technical support, and other activities that are deemed necessary.Presentproducts and systems to customers at various seminars held throughout the year.Presentthe companys products to customers by providing technical expertise through the differentphases of the sales process.Collect and process competitive information.Assist indevelopment of product strategies in conjunction with Sales Representatives and the SalesCouncil.Initiate the transmittal of product technical literature or other information as a resultof customer requests.Arrange and conduct meetings with customers at the factory asnecessary.ManagementPerform administrative functions such as creating, reviewing and writingreports, approving expenditures, enforcing rules, and making decisions about the purchase ofmaterials or services.Monitors progress against project schedules and budgets;recommends allocation of resources as required to accomplish goals.Making Decisions andSolving Problems Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solutionand overcome obstacles.Develop and implement policies, standards and procedures forthe engineering and technical work performed in the department, service, laboratory or firm.Prepares the annual budget request for the program; estimates staffing, equipment supplyneeds based upon recent trends and planned activities.Monitors and reports expendituresafter budget adoption.Ensure compliance with ISO Quality system.Communicating withSupervisors, Peers, or Subordinates; Providing information to supervisors, co workers, andsubordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.Perform other duties asnecessary.Staff Management and DevelopmentRecruit employees; assign, direct, and evaluate theirwork; and oversee the development and maintenance of staff competence.Interviews andhires new staff; prioritizes, assigns and reviews work, approves time off for payroll purposes,and prepares and reviews employee performance evaluations.
