This challenging leadership position provides support to staff and senior managers as well as strategic policy advice to Directors, Assistant Deputy Ministers, Deputy Minister and the Minister. This position leads cross-departmental policy initiatives and Indigenous relations to ensure cohesive and effective policy development.Within the Policy, Legislation and Communications Division, you will oversee policy management and coordination to drive impactful outcomes. This opportunity is particularly suited to you if you're a strategic thinker with a strong policy background who thrives in a leadership role, enjoys navigating complex policy matters, and excels at providing high level advice in a fast-paced environment.Key Responsibilities:Oversee the research, drafting, implementation, and evaluation of departmental policies; provide expert advice to senior leadership and ensure alignment with GNWT priorities.Manage the preparation, submission, and follow-up of Executive Council materials; support the Minister through briefings, issue tracking, and Legislative Assembly sessions.Provide strategic advice on Aboriginal rights issues, lead departmental input into negotiations and implementation of agreements, and coordinate consultation and accommodation efforts.Represent the department at intergovernmental meetings, ensure position consistency, monitor national developments, and provide strategic input on inter-jurisdictional matters.Supervise staff, develop work plans, and support capacity-building within the policy unit to meet divisional and departmental goals.Key Qualifications:Completion of an undergraduate degree (e.g. Bachelor's) and completion of either a graduate degree (e.g. Masters) or a degree program in law.
