Our federal government client is requesting a Environmental Emergency Preparedness Consultant to support Scientific and Technical Advisory Services on Matters Related to Marine Environmental Incidents, Response Measures, Emerging Technologies and Effects from Stressors on Aquatic Species and Habitats within Canada. Canada has a strong marine (including the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River and Seaway) safety system focusing around four major pillars: prevention, preparedness, response and recovery. The Government of Canada has dedicated significant resources to further enhance specific aspects of the Environmental Protection and Emergency Response and Recovery regime in Canada from coast to coast to coast.Responsibilities: Provide support to high-quality, science-based processes for comprehensive assessment of the impact or risk to the aquatic environment during all response phases: prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery. This support includes developing plans for sampling, recovery, spill clean-up disposal, data review, problem formulation, exposure and toxicity assessment, risk characterization, and recovery assessments. In the response and recovery phases, the consultant must provide timely assessments and informed decisions. Support recovery efforts, external expert assessments or advice may be required, such as ecological risk assessments, impact analyses from specific incidents or clean- up efforts, and advice on cumulative impacts on species and the ecosystem. Review of scientific documents, and participating in or chairing workshops and meetings. The consultant must undertake a review and evaluation of various scientific documents and information, including reports, research documents, and outputs produced by other entities. These documents may come in diverse formats, such as written reports, research proposals, and data generated from research or monitoring efforts like toxicological or analytical data. Additionally, the role can include chairing, presenting and participating in meetings like workshops, seminars, working groups, peer-review meetings, and more.Provide expert advice in Emergency Science Tables or Environmental Unit (incident response). During a response to an environmental emergency or incident, required to provide timely and informed advice to the lead agency through an Environmental Emergencies Science Table and Environmental Unit.Provide expert advice in support of the orgainization participation in incident response. Develop tools, guidance, training and protocols to assist in environmental incident preparedness, response or recovery activities. Experience and Qualifications:University DegreeProject Management Professional (PMP) designation is an asset Professional Certification or License (e.g., P. Eng, RPBio) is an asset 10 years of experience working in the field of emergency preparedness and response to environmental incidents.
