Reporting directly to ownership, this role is responsible for overseeing an existing department of engineers in an office-based environment, ensuring technical excellence, and managing a diverse portfolio of projects including subdivision work, municipal infrastructure, sewer/watermain/roadwork, and structural design (primarily wood structures, with some concrete and steel). The role also includes overseeing stormwater management and site plans. Experience with bridge design is an asset, and general contractor or civil construction experience is highly valued.Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & ManagementLead and mentor a team of engineers, technologists, and technical staff.Oversee resource allocation, workload distribution, and team performance.Contribute to department goal-setting and strategic planning.Implement and maintain quality assurance/quality control processes.Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture.Technical & Project ManagementLead the preparation of designs for site plans, grading, drainage, roads, infrastructure, erosion/sediment control, and structural components.Develop and monitor project scopes, schedules, and budgets.Prepare and review engineering reports, functional servicing reports, stormwater management designs, structural analyses, specifications, and cost estimates.Manage client relationships and lead project communications, including meetings and status reporting.Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams including surveyors and other specialists.Ensure technical excellence and adherence to standards across all deliverables.Qualifications & ExperienceMinimum 8-10 years of experience in civil engineering, with a focus on subdivision, municipal, and structural design.Previous team leadership or management experience required.Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering (or related field).Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) certification is an asset.Strong skills in civil engineering design with demonstrated project management success.Experience across multiple engineering disciplines, with particular emphasis on civil, stormwater, municipal servicing, and structural engineering.Comprehensive knowledge of municipal design standards, regulatory approvals, and applicable legislation.Experience coordinating with regulatory agencies and municipal authorities.General contractor or civil construction experience is an asset.Bridge design experience is an asset.Key AttributesStrong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop team members.Strategic thinker with excellent problem-solving capabilities.Exceptional project and time management skills.Outstanding communicator with the ability to build relationships with clients and team members.Technically proficient with attention to detail and quality.Adaptable and solutions-driven approach to complex challenges.What They OfferCompetitive compensation commensurate with experience and leadership responsibilities.Comprehensive benefits package and retirement plan.Professional development opportunities and support for continued growth.Collaborative, respectful, and community-minded work culture.The chance to lead impactful projects that shape local communities.Contact Harbinger Network:Harbinger Network Inc. is a Canadian-based firm that serves companies across Canada, a diverse Network of Recruiters, and expertise in over 10 major disciplines.
