We pride ourselves on our contributions to the success of our customers while having a company-wide commitment to be at the forefront of innovative practices and procedures, and by providing efficient and reliable service as a reinforcing steel provider.Position SummaryThe Health and Safety Manager will be accountable for overseeing all aspects A&H Steel (Vancouver) Occupational Health and Safety Program. This position will be responsible for ensuring a safe work environment for all employees, contractors, and visitors, and assist with creating a company culture that focuses on employee safety. Duties will include providing leadership and guidance to all aspects of safety to the office, shop and field employees, hazard identification and injury prevention, training, and development, and conduct all accident/near miss incident investigations.Job DescriptionResponsibility Area #1 – Occupational Health & Safety RegulationsThrough collaboration with the departmental managers, ensure that employees adhere to A&H Steel’s Health and Safety program which is aligned to HSE regulations.Work with the Leadership Team to create and update all required safety policies and training programs.Stay up to date with current regulations and communicate changes and their impacts to the Leadership Team. Official liaison with WorkSafeBC regarding any incidents or queries, on behalf of A&H Steel.Responsibility Area #2 – Health & SafetyEnsure the Lead Hands are completing a daily PSI for each shift.Generate weekly toolbox talks on relevant topics.Investigate, report, and follow up on any unsafe equipment, incident or near miss incidents. Determine causes and preventative measures promptly, while following all WorkSafeBC regulations, and communicate to leadership.Lead all incident investigations, and ensure proper documentation is completed.Ensure all shifts meet the minimum first aid requirements. Work with leadership team to ensure there is a worker representation on the Company’s Joint Health and Safety Committee Collaborate with the OHS committee members and the management team regarding emergency response planning, planned safety inspections, and updating Job Hazard Assessments. Work continuously to increase knowledge of safety standards and best practices.Further develop the Health and Safety Program in order to achieve COR Certification.Maintain COR Certification through continuous audits and improvements.Order all required Personal Protective Equipment for both shop, field and office. Responsibility Area #3 – Documentation & ReportingLead the development and support safety strategies, plans, policies, practices, and procedures, JHA’s for on-site activities.Accountable for ensuring all WorkSafeBC documentation are completed on time and in accordance with requirements.Calculate, track, analyze, and report health and safety statistics. Manage the A&H Modified / Alternate Work Program.Responsibility Area #4 – Leadership & DevelopmentIdentify training needs and communicate with Senior Management what training resources are needed.Ensure all employee First Aid certificates are valid, and schedule required training as needed.Ensure compliance and training as required by legislation, contractor standards, and A&H procedures (fall pro, confined space, overhead crane, WHMIS, first aid, etc.).Train, coach, and mentor all employees on all required safety topics.Ensure all new employees receive the New Hire Orientations, safety tours, and fit with appropriate Personal Protective Equipment for their specific position.Conduct all monthly safety inspections and Joint Occupational Health and Safety team meetings.Mentor and develop all Health and Safety team members.Responsibility Area #5 - CommunicationResponsible for building trusting relationships with employees, contractors, and visitors. Responsible for all Health and Safety change management initiatives in the fabrication shop and office.Suggest and develop improvements for A&H Steel Safety Program, while keeping in mind production requirements.Provide feedback to management identifying successes, areas for improvement and recommendations.Visit the worksites to maintain relationships with contractors, assist in conducting workplace inspections, and to ensure safety standards are met and being enforced consistently.Ensure incident corrective actions are followed up on and completed.Responsibility Area #6 – BudgetMaintain an annual budget on safety related expenditure.Purchase and distribute safety related equipment through the procurement department.Purchase safety related documentation (PSI’s, Toolbox, Observation cards, Near miss booklets).Ensure the first aid room is supplied with all needed supplies and equipment.Responsibility Area #7 – SupervisoryHelp train, coach, mentor and provide performance feedback to Safety Department.Conduct annual reviews with Safety Department for the purpose of performance appraisal and for personal training and development needs.Set annual goals for all members of the Safety Department.Work with Human Recourses regarding Performance Improvement measures. Responsibility Area #8 – Values & PurposeFocus on developing self and others through practicing living the company values every day.Participate in continuous training, coaching, and discussions about the values as requested or needed.Participate in helping A&H facilitate its purpose.Continuously model A&H’s values of Authenticity, Integrity, Responsibility, Being Bigger than Oneself and Happiness.QualificationsComprehensive knowledge of OH&S regulations is required.Comprehensive knowledge of operating practices and procedures in fabrication shop environment is an asset.Previous leadership/supervisory role with effective leadership skills, interpersonal, communication, and troubleshooting/problem solving skills is required.Basic computer skills.  Strong people skills with an outgoing, friendly, positive attitude. Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.Able to handle multiple competing tasks and priorities and perform quality work efficiently with minimal supervision.Able to work required hours, which may include weekends and holidays. EducationHigh School Diploma.Occupational Health and Safety Diploma. Professional DesignationCHSC designation would be an asset.CRSP designation would be an asset.Safety Certification is an asset.COR Auditing certificate would be an asset.Compensation and Benefits ($100,000.00 - $110,000.00 Annual Salary)A&H Steel Vancouver offers a competitive full compensation package that aligns with our company vision of being the rebar company that everyone wants to work for.
