Kenora-Rainy River Districts Child & Family ServicesIs seeking applications for:Senior Legal Counsel (Quote file # 8/25)Closing Date: Open until filledHours of Work:Full time, 33.75 hours per weekLocation: The successful candidate must reside in or be willing to relocate to either Kenora, Fort Frances, Dryden, Red Lake, or Atikokan Salary: Up to $123,264Position Summary: The Senior Legal Counsel is responsible for representing the Agency in all legal matters related to the Child, Youth and Family Services Act (CYFSA), including (but not limited to) the preparation and presentation of cases in Superior Court of Justice and all other Hearings, Tribunals, and Boards, through to the completion of appeals.Senior Legal Counsel also provides legal consultation with Agency staff on matters relevant to protection case work. The incumbent acts as primary liaison between the Agency and the courts to promote efficient conduct of child protection litigation and oversees the Legal Services unit. Knowledge and Skills Required:vSound knowledge of legislation that concerns children and families, particularly the CYFSA.vSound knowledge of the processes and procedures involved in litigation, including current legal decisions andrelevant techniques.vSound knowledge of legal research is necessary.vAbility to mediate with other parties regarding what is in the best interests of the child and the Agency.vSkilled in assessing the evidentiary merits of a child protection case as described by Agency staff and other witnesses.vProven organizational and administrative skills.vLeadership skills.vStrong work ethic, positive attitude, and the ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team.vSome travel within the region and the ability to work flexible hours may be required.Qualifications:vLL.B. from recognized School of Law.vMinimum of three (3) to five (5) years experience practicing in family law, child representation, child protection, young offenders, or relevant/similar experience.vManagement experience is an asset.Required: vMust possess a valid Ontario Driver's Licence or the equivalent. vMust produce a satisfactory Criminal Record Check. vMust be a member in good standing of the Law Society of Upper Canada and licensed to practice law in Ontario (or eligible for licensure).
