Job Title: Staff Accountant/Bookkeeper Location: Toronto, ON The Client: Our client is a privately held financial services firm based in Downtown Toronto. With a focus on capital markets and private investments, the firm operates in a fast-paced and professional environment while maintaining a collaborative, close-knit team culture. They are seeking a Staff Accountant or experienced Bookkeeper to support their CFO with daily financial operations. What you will achieve in this role: Manage full-cycle bookkeeping, including A/P, A/R, bank reconciliations, and journal entries. Prepare monthly financial statements and assist with year-end working papers. Process payroll and manage all associated filings (CRA, WSIB, EHT, etc.). Oversee HST/GST return preparation and ensure compliance with federal and provincial regulations. Track and account for a diversified investment portfolio (real estate, equities, private debt, etc.). Maintain up-to-date records in accounting software and support internal reporting needs. Liaise with external accountants and auditors during financial reviews. Provide administrative and financial support to the CFO as needed. What you must bring to this role: Must have a degree in bookkeeping, accounting, or a related field; a CPA designation or enrollment is considered an asset. Must have at least 3 years of full-cycle bookkeeping experience in a professional setting. Must be proficient in payroll processing and statutory compliance (e.g., GST/HST, WSIB, EHT). Must have a strong understanding of financial reporting, reconciliations, and tax preparation. Experience in investment accounting (including real estate and securities) is a strong asset. Proficiency in QuickBooks (or comparable software) and Excel is required. Must be detail-oriented, organized, and capable of working independently in a small office.
