This hybrid role is ideal for conducting electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) tests on electronic devices designed for railway signaling systems, familiarity with troubleshooting activities regarding EMC tests, and providing relevant measurements and technical details to the design team.Role: Hardware Compliance Designer (EMC Engineer)Location- Moatfield Drive, Toronto, ONContract Duration- 6+ Months with Possible extensionJob DescriptionKey Responsibilities:Conduct electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) tests on electronic devices designed for railways signaling systems according to the industry standardsConduct environmental qualification tests such as temperature, humidity and shock & vibration on electronic devices designed for railway signaling systems according to the industry standardsMust be familiar with railway (or similar industry) EMC and environmental standards; such standards include EN 61000 series, EN 50121 series, EN 50125, EN 50155, FCC, AREMA, MIL standards, etc.Must have knowledge on grounding, shielding, surge protection and other basic EMC conceptsMust be able to operate hardware test equipment and simulators that are deployed in the hardware qualification test processParticipate in troubleshooting activities with regards to EMC tests and provide relevant measurements and technical details to the design teamPrepare project EMC documentations including EMC Control Plan, EMC Compatibility Study, EMC Hazard Analysis and EMC Test Report and drive them to customer acceptancePrepares hardware environmental qualification plans and reports to specified requirements and understands the impact of the requirements and is able to provide feedback on different approachesBe able to lead subcontractors with regards to specific EMC site measurements in line with customer requirementsParticipate in the process of ISA (International Standards on Auditing) committee audit on EMC and environmental requirementsFamiliarity with the topic of fire, smoke and toxicity is an asset: standards include EN 45545 and NFPA 130Familiar with requirements management tools such as DOORS, Polarion, etc. and requirement verification process as per CENELEC standardsResponsible for working harmoniously in a team environment while maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the job and in relations with othersDeveloping junior team members of the department by providing assistance, as required.Preferred Skills and Experience:6 to 10+ years of experience in the railway Signalling industry working with international standardsIn-depth knowledge of EMC principles impacting the emission and immunity performance of the electronic circuitsProficient in performing EMC analysis, assessing the proposed changes to the existing design, and build similarity casesDevising and running tests to verify functionality, and identifying and solving problemsBe able to operate complex EMC measurement tools in the lab and at the siteKnowledgeable in radio certification requirements and process, including FCC, Industry Canada, ETSI, and relevant safety standardsFamiliar with the process of CE certification and associated European Directive for electronics equipmentReviewing any applicable specifications, standards, rules, etc,. and ensuring that the appropriate actions resulting from this review have been takenEnjoys staying current with the technology of the disciplineProfessional Engineers License (P.Eng.)
