Fast-Track to Partnership for a Family and/or Estate Lawyer This presents a unique opportunity for a 3+ year Family Lawyer with some Estate experience, looking to deepen their expertise and accelerate their path to partnership. Key Qualities and Skills: A passion for the strategic aspects of family or estate law and effectively using the legal system to achieve optimal client outcomes. A strong desire to help clients through results-focused negotiation, with readiness to employ litigation when necessary. A collaborative approach, valuing collegiality and working with opposing counsel to secure the best results for clients. Preference for a work environment that is open, light, and bright, featuring oceanview offices and outdoor access to a rooftop terrace. Proficiency with state-of-the-art AI and case law research, integrated legal software (LEAP), and access to ongoing professional development such as CLEBC courses and practice manuals. Our client, a passionate family and estate law firm located mid-Vancouver Island in Parksville, serves communities from Courtney to Nanaimo and Tofino. Responsibilities: Meet with potential clients to assess fit through active listening, fact gathering, and document review. Manage a broad range of complex family law files, including separation agreements, asset and debt division, and support issues, from initial meeting to case closure. Build strong client relationships by guiding them toward outcomes, keeping them informed, and preparing them for subsequent steps. Prepare cases strategically, utilizing effective ADR and legal procedures under BC Family Law. Develop trial strategies and handle litigation when ADR is ineffective or unsuitable. Qualifications: Over 3 years of experience as a Family or Estate Lawyer in BC, managing both simple and complex files. Some estate law experience is an asset. Experience in litigation with a focus on settlement and expertise in ADR. Proficiency with legal software; experience with LEAP is a definite asset. Strong project management skills, capable of handling multiple files effectively. Ability to work both in-office and remotely as needed. Compensation is flexible and negotiable, based on a revenue split model.
