Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world''s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada''s premier health-education institutions. The University is currently home to more than 38,000 students with more than 15,000 faculty and staff. The Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in the Department of Medicine is home to 12 full-time academic physiatrists and researchers and approximately 22 associated clinical academic colleagues. The Division has one of the oldest and best known PMR residency training programs in Canada and currently has 13 full-time trainees. In addition to clinical training, the Division of PMR has many strong and well-funded researchers. Our Division members have been the recipients of many national and international awards recognizing their contributions to rehabilitation science and education. The Division of PMR is also strongly associated with the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital, one of the largest freestanding rehabilitation hospitals in North America, serving all of Northern Alberta, parts of British Columbia, and northern Canada. The successful candidate will have an MD degree, or equivalent. They will be eligible to be certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada. As well, they will be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) . Key accountabilities of the Academic Physiatrist will include, but will not be limited to : inpatient consultation and outpatient clinics at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital, Cross Cancer Institute and other acute care sites; administrative duties of Medical Program Lead, Cancer Rehabilitation to assist with program development, zone research initiatives and provincial initiatives; supervision of learners on clinical rotations, educational contributions to the PMR residency program and UGME; and participation in relevant clinical research initiatives. Individuals interested in scholarly work in education, administration and / or research are strongly encouraged to apply, with flexibility to support the academic goals of the applicant. The successful candidate will be offered a contingent tenured or tenure-track appointment in the Department of Medicine, with the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor, which is in accordance with the University of Alberta Faculty Agreement, and offers a comprehensive benefits package. Remuneration for this position is based on the Academic Alternative Relationship Plan (AMHSP). Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
