As a faith- and values-based organization, we hire and serve people of all backgrounds and walks of life - there is a place for everyone to belong here.Mission StatementThe Salvation Army exists to share the love of Jesus Christ, meet human needs and be a transforming influence in the communities of our world.ResponsibilitiesJob Description:ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will be responsible for serving male and female clients with addictions and concurrent disorders residing in Halton emergency shelters:Outreach and Engagement with clientsPre- and post-treatment supportAssessment and ReferralIndividual CounsellingDevelopment of case plans based on client-centred recovery goalsNetworking with community agenciesCrisis/Conflict InterventionClient documentationCommunity Follow-upTeam Consultation and Decision-MakingWorking out of Cawthra Road Shelter (Mississauga) and Lighthouse Shelter (Oakville)Qualifications/ Skills/ AbilitiesUndergraduate degree or diploma from a recognized institution (in one of the human services professions), including qualifications to enter a Provincial Regulated College. Masters/Graduate Training an assetMinimum 3 years experience working in the addiction/mental health sectorCACCF/ICADC Certification an assetUnderstanding of the continuum of addiction and concurrent disordersKnowledge and experience in substance abuse counselling interventions / treatment modelsKnowledge and experience with mental health and concurrent disordersKnowledge and experience in assessments, individual and group counselling and case managementUnderstanding of trauma in relation to substance use, mental healthKnowledge of cultural competent practicesKnowledge and experience in conducting assessments using MOH assessment tools, individual and group counselling and case managementThe ability to work individually and as part of a teamThe ability to work collaboratively with community partnersKnowledge and experience with data management systems, particularly CatalystA successful police check as per Salvation Army Policies and ProceduresKnowledge and understanding of relapse prevention, life skills, mental health recovery, crisis managementAbility to provide effective individual counselling, process group facilitation, psycho-educational group facilitationAwareness of issues around and experience in dealing with concurrent disorders, marginalized populations, abstinence-based treatment, and harm reduction strategiesAdditional InformationThe candidate should be a flexible, reliable, mature and compassionate professional who:Has excellent communication skillsHas an appreciation for diversityWorks effectively in teamsPossesses good judgment and problem solving skillsIs committed to professional developmentIs able to effectively network in the communityMust be supportive of the mission of The Salvation ArmyDirectly responsible to the Program Coordinator40 hours per week - Monday through Friday3 month probationary periodMust have access to a personal vehicle for travel to community appointmentsCompensationThe target hiring range for this position is $26.78 to $33.47 with a maximum of $40.16.Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.The Salvation Army will provide reasonable accommodation upon request.
