They are aerospace engineering experts, having created 15 different airtanker types and converted hundreds of aircraft into airtankers. As aviation maintenance experts, they perform repair, maintenance, and overhaul on their fleet. They also operate airtankers, providing crew and maintenance support under contract to government agencies in Canada, the US, Australia, and France. About the Role They currently have an opening for a full-time permanent Director of Safety, based in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada. The Director of Safety provides leadership, professional knowledge, and expertise to the organization on all matters relating to workplace safety. Collaborating with teams across all departments, this role ensures the Safety Management System (SMS) protects the wellbeing of all employees, contractors, customers, and visitors. The Director actively promotes a safe and healthy work environment, oversees safety training programs, and monitors safety processes for effectiveness. Key Responsibilities Lead, develop, and implement safety initiatives. Oversee safety investigations and risk management. Collaborate with senior managers on SMS-related matters. Prepare and manage the Safety Services department budget. Primary Objectives Promote workforce safety and health. Maintain a safety-oriented company culture emphasizing quality, continuous improvement, and high performance while managing associated costs. Specific Duties Lead implementation of safety initiatives throughout the organization. Promote a safety culture built on commitment, accountability, professionalism, and transparency. Establish and maintain an internal safety reporting and feedback system. Communicate mandatory safety reports to regulators, investigators, and clients. Develop and recommend safety-related programs and training. Ensure safety training programs meet departmental and legislative requirements. Coordinate and facilitate regular safety meetings. Oversee incident and accident investigations. Facilitate formal hazard assessments. Prepare summary reports and recommendations for safety improvements. Interpret safety regulations and provide expert guidance. Conduct safety and operational audits. Monitor and assess WCB coverage, claims, and costs. Liaise with clients to obtain feedback on safety matters. Manage the publication and revision of the Safety Management System Manual and related documentation. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Skills & Competencies Proven experience developing and administering safety programs. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Ability to influence change and gain employee buy-in. Knowledge of relevant Canadian safety and aviation regulations. Capacity to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Willingness and ability to travel within Canada and internationally. Education & Training Bachelors degree in Safety Management, Aviation Management, or equivalent experience. Training in Auditing, Investigation, Quality Management, and SMS. Background in Aviation Safety Management and Incident Investigation. Experience conducting audits in aviation operations or maintenance. Experience designing and administering training programs. Minimum 5 years of management or safety management experience in the aviation industry.
