Transportation Operations Lead About the Role: This position is directly responsible for leading the Transportation Operations team through daily business activities and continuous improvement opportunities. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and executing the long-term strategy for rail operations, ensuring that both immediate and short-term operational requirements of the network are being met by partnering with carriers and third-party logistics providers. Key Responsibilities: Manage team''s escalations of carrier challenges and coach team through them. Hold carrier partners accountable for service performance: on-time pickup and delivery, tender acceptance rate to awarded lanes, routing guide compliance, carrier providing shipment status notifications within allotted time, etc. Hold team accountable for delivery of results while also pushing for continuous improvement opportunities, process innovation, and on-going support of existing and future releases of systems, tools, and processes. Demonstrate leadership principles and practices, accountable for succession plan/career path and training (growth) opportunities for direct reports, lead engagement of direct reports, including timely communication, feedback, recognition, fostering trust, etc. Provide input on distribution modeling/recommendations for improving service and cost within the Logistics network, contribute to annual budgeting, RFP with Logistics Procurement team, Fiscal Year Logistics team objectives, including priority setting, KPIs, and targets that become team''s focus for which they will be performance rated against. Requirements: Academic Qualifications: Must have a Bachelor''s degree in Business, Logistics, Finance, or Supply Chain or applicable field coupled with experience in Logistics and/or Supply Chain. Nice to have a Master''s/advanced degree in Business, Finance, Supply Chain, or related and applicable field. Related Work Experience: Must have a minimum of three to five years'' experience in Logistics/Transportation required. Prior supervisory experience required. Nice to have experience in Warehousing, Dispatch, WMS/TMS, 4Kites, Dock Scheduling, and/or Finance role. Working Relationships and Key Contacts: Internal: Customer Service Manager, Supply Chain Planning and Deployment Managers, ISC Finance Manager. External: Carrier Partners, 3PL and internal Whse Partners, Customers. Authorities: Managing People (# of direct reports): 7. Competencies: Strong appreciation of transportation processes, modes, and carrier relations. Experience in improving business processes via continuous process review. Good understanding of financial principles and fundamentals. Good understanding of end-to-end supply chain business processes. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills preferred. Good understanding of SAP, specifically inventory management and order creation through post-goods issue. Strong analytical skills with demonstrated ability to understand financial impact of decisions made by self and/or team.
