Communications & Marketing Specialist Under the direction of the Superintendent, the Superintendents Department manages the operational and educational affairs of the Winnipeg School Division in accordance with the policies established by the Board of Trustees. The organization of the Division is based on a Family of Schools concept that an Assistant Superintendent oversees, who reports to the Superintendent. The Communications Services Team is a core team of WSDs operations division. It leads strategic external communications to the public, as well as internal communications to schools and staff. Responsibilities include media relations, social media, website management, advertising, and corporate messaging. The team also upholds the WSD brand by supporting design requests from across the division, as well as crisis communications for senior administration. Under the supervision of the Communications Team Lead, the Communications & Marketing Specialist plans and executes innovative social media campaigns to highlight the success of our schools and students. They also build and distribute e-newsletters to staff for a variety of internal communications needs. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to: Craft meaningful, shareable social media content for WSD external and internal audiences - assist with drafting and implementing the WSD content calendar for social media channels and newsletters ; cultivate story ideas from around the division that align with WSD values and strategies; conduct interviews and write informative and entertaining feature stories, briefs and captions; capture dynamic photos and video in person at division-wide events, programs and schools to fulfill content calendar; conceptualize and build social media advertising campaigns Daily management of social media content with continuous optimization - monitor and engage with the public as needed on social media platforms; implements paid social media advertising campaigns; regularly analyze and report on social media data and metrics to help the team make data-driven content decisions; daily social listening to keep abreast of local & national education industry stories, trends, and insights Create and catalogue photo and video brand assets - capture dynamic photos and social media video in person at division-wide events, programs and schools; organize images and video in a team asset management system for all branded communications needs Ensure all social media and newsletter content aligns WSD brand standards and messaging - conduct ongoing reviews and planning with the Communications Team to ensure tactics, branded creative, and projects meet the changing needs of WSD stakeholders and assisting with necessary updates; advise and coach school administrators, teachers and other WSD personnel social media best practices Monitor public sentiment and crisis incidents via social media - monitor social platforms for emerging issues and public sentiment, escalating concerns to leadership Performs other related duties within this classification not exceeding skills and capabilities as required. Qualifications: Degree or diploma in communications, journalism, public relations, or related discipline is required. A minimum of three to five years experience in a related capacity (digital marketing, social media content creation, public relations) in a medium-large business setting. Demonstrated experience with all aspects of social media content creation, including writing, photography, and short-form video creation. Experience curating content for social media, websites, e-newsletters and digital ad campaigns is required. Proficiency with photography and videography tools, such as smartphone applications, Adobe Design Suite, Premier Pro, and emerging AI creative tools. Demonstrated ability for growing follower bases and overseeing community engagement on social media in a respectful manner that aligns with corporate messaging. Developing and reporting on KPIs using data and metrics analytic tools and then using data to inform plans and strategy is an asset. This individual will have proven creative, strategic and written/verbal communications skills with a high attention to detail. They will excel at organization and planning, as managing a variety of projects simultaneously in a deadline-focused environment is key to the Communications Teams success. They must be able to work independently and be comfortable with a high degree of decision making and problem solving. This person will have an inherent understanding of using social media to maintain a companys public reputation and to build brand awareness. This person should have a genuine interest in the public education sector and a desire to support youth. Ability to work collaboratively across departments and schools.
