This individual will be charged with identifying and cultivating mission-aligned partnerships with school districts, local and state government agencies, national nonprofits, and influential community-based organizations.With a sales-oriented mindset and a strong grasp of cross-sector systems, the Director will be responsible for laying the groundwork for communities to eventually become Family Learning Communities. While this role does not lead the implementation of those communities, it plays a critical role in surfacing interest, building relationships, and securing programmatic commitments-setting the stage for deeper engagement led by NCFL's Community Impact team.This highly visible role will work cross-functionally with the Education Strategy & Innovation, Community Impact, Research & Evaluation, Communications, and Development teams, and will collaborate closely with senior leaders to translate NCFL's vision into new markets and lasting impact.Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesStrategic Growth & Partner DevelopmentIdentify, pursue, and secure partnerships that align with NCFL's mission and create pathways for future Family Learning Communities.Build and execute a strategic outreach plan designed to deliver revenue or tangible organizational value-such as funding, strategic positioning, or market expansion.Represent NCFL externally to clearly communicate its value proposition and spark interest in adopting its core programming models and professional learning packages.Stakeholder Engagement & Relationship ManagementCultivate and manage relationships with grass-tops and grass-roots leaders including but not limited to: school district leaders, policymakers, nonprofit executives, and community influencers.Qualify potential partners based on mission alignment, strategic fit, and resource potential.Guide partners through NCFL's engagement pipeline-from initial conversation to formal agreement or investment.Internal CollaborationCoordinate closely with the National Directors to ensure readiness and alignment as partnerships move toward deeper programmatic engagement.Partner with research & evaluation, development, communications, and program teams to align messages, surface opportunities, and track engagement.Contribute to internal forecasting and planning by tracking partner movement and potential value.Entrepreneurial & Strategic LeadershipBring a business development lens to NCFL's mission, identifying high-potential entry points that drive growth and sustainability.Monitor external trends to anticipate demand and proactively position NCFL with key stakeholders.Contribute to refining NCFL's partnership framework, messaging, and materials based on market feedback.STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCEActively participates in management that is regular, reflective and collaborative in nature. Seeks assistance and guidance when needed.Incorporates constructive direction from manager to improve job performance.Accepts responsibility for the quality of job performance and makes changes as needed.Maintains awareness of current professional information in the fields of activity, undertakes regular and ongoing efforts to maintain competencies in the skills and incorporates new knowledge and skills on the job.Shares pertinent information with manager about work progress, successes, concerns and other issues that may have an impact on the services intended for families.A commitment to upholding the organization's diversity, equity, and inclusion principles and practicesQualifications / RequirementsBachelor's degree in education, public administration, business, nonprofit management, or related field.7+ years of experience in strategic partnerships, business development, government relations, or a related field.Demonstrated success in securing revenue-generating or high-value strategic partnerships.Deep understanding of systems-level work in education, community development, or public services.Strong communication and persuasion skills, with the ability to connect with decision-makers and influencers.Entrepreneurial mindset with a bias toward action, accountability, and measurable results.Ability to collaborate across teams and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.Actively contribute to a positive, professional work culture focused on growth, development and learning across departments and teamsAn unwavering belief that all families want the best for their children and deserve to be treated with respect and dignity.Proven track record of ambitious results in previous roles.Self-awareness, a regular practice of reflection, and a desire to continuously improveSkilled at collaborative action planning and executionTravel required up to 40%PreferredMaster's degree in a related field.Experience with public-private partnerships, fee-for-service models, or collective impact coalitions.Familiarity with CRMs (e.g., Salesforce), partner tracking systems, or growth dashboards.Understanding of multigenerational or family literacy models.Physical RequirementsProlonged period of sitting at a desk and working at a computer.Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at times.Communicating with others to exchange information.The ability to use hands and fingers to manipulate the keyboard including some reaching requiring consistent use of hands and arms.Ability to travel up to 40%.Salary range - $75,000-$85,000NCFL is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout our organization.
