Position: Executive Director/Station Manager, CJSRReporting to: The First Alberta Campus Radio Association (FACRA) Board of DirectorsStatus: Full-time (40 hours per week), Out of ScopeLocation: Edmonton, Alberta (On-Site)Position SummaryThe First Alberta Campus Radio Association (FACRA) is seeking a dynamic and community-minded Executive Director/Station Manager to lead CJSR 88.5 FMEdmontons volunteer-powered campus and community radio station. Rooted in creativity, inclusivity, and grassrootsenergy, CJSR thrives on the passion of its volunteers and the vibrancy of the local community,offering eclectic music and thought-provoking spoken word content. The ED/Station Managerplays a pivotal role in inspiring and supporting this unique ecosystem, providing strategicleadership, operational oversight, and a clear connection between vision and action. Fromchampioning bold, diverse programming to ensuring a welcoming space for learning,collaboration, and expression, this role is at the heart of everything CJSR stands for. As a keyambassador for the station, the ED/Station Manager also represents CJSR to regulatory bodies,donors, community partners, and the public, ensuring alignment with its mission to challenge thestatus quo and elevate underrepresented voices.Key ResponsibilitiesOrganizational Strategy and Executive Leadership:Provide strategic leadership, aligning operations with the mission and vision.Review and administer short- and long-term strategic planning.Develop and implement the strategic plan with the Board of Directors.Oversee major projects and identify growth opportunities.Foster and encourage creative expression in a culture of innovative music and spokenword programming.External Relations, Communications, and Fund Development:Represent the organization in the community, building relationships and advocating forits mission.Develop and implement communication strategies to promote the organization's work.Lead the development of activities and services for target audiences, including diversemusic programming and spoken word initiatives.Act as the primary liaison with various stakeholders, including the UofA Students Union,UofA Graduate Students Association, and the wider campus community, government entities,and donors.Develop and implement fundraising strategies to secure financial support.Manage fundraising activities, including events, campaigns, and grant writing.Staff and Volunteer Management:Hire, train, manage, and supervise staff.Oversee management of volunteers that work with the organization and whom also maybe contributors to radio show content;Maintain a competent and effective team.Lead and motivate staff, fostering a positive work environment.Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.Ensure appropriate salary and wage structures.Maintain a safe and secure working environment.Board Relations:Serve as the primary liaison with the Board of Directors, providing updates andrecommendations.Attend board meetings and the Annual General Meeting (AGM).Implement Board-approved policies and recommend operational improvements.Prepare the annual budget for Board approval.Assist the board in updating bylaws and policies.Operations and Administration:Oversee the management and maintenance of facilities.Maintain an annual inventory of assets.Uphold and maintain all pertinent documents.Coordinate the maintenance of the station website and email systems.Prepare office procedure manuals and recommend changes.Financial Management:Ensure financial stability and sustainability.Oversee financial operations, including budgeting, accounting, and reporting.Monitor expenses and keep them within the annual budget.Manage accounts, cash flow, and term deposits.Oversee preparations for the annual audit..Sign cheques and ensure timely administration of financial paperwork.Legal, Regulatory, and Policy Compliance:Manage timely completion of financial reports and grant applications.Ensure compliance with all stakeholder requirements and government regulations.Submit required information and reports to regulatory and government officials.Guarantee compliance with broadcasting and employment standards.Presents an annual report at the AGM.QualificationsUniversity degree or college diploma in Business, Arts Administration, Fundraising,Public Relations, or a related field.Strong budgetary knowledge and financial control.Solid business acumen with expertise in management and volunteer coordination.Proficiency in digital tools, including Google Suite and web-based databases.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Proven leadership and management abilities.Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and conflict resolution skills.Skilled in negotiating business contracts and developing fundraising strategies.Demonstrated initiative in generating ideas and implementing improvements.Strong creative problem-solving skills, flexibility, and adaptability.Valid drivers license required.Experience:Minimum of 5 years in a management role.Proven experience leading a non-profit or charitable organization.Familiarity with regulatory compliance and reporting requirements.Experience collaborating with a Board of Directors.Community radio or broadcasting experience preferred.Experience in public relations or communications an asset.Familiarity with the post-secondary environment an asset.About CJSRCJSR is Edmontons only independent, volunteer-powered campus and community radiostation, broadcasting 24/7 from a former bank vault in the University of Albertas StudentsUnion Building on Treaty 6 territory.
