We are proud of who we are, what we do and how we do it, protecting our world from wildfires.We currently have an opening for a full-time permanent Director of Safety based in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada.The Director of Safety provides leadership, professional knowledge and expertise to the entire Conair organization on all matters relating to workplace safety. Collaborating with teams in all departments, they help to ensure the Safety Management System will protect the wellbeing of all employees, contractors, customers and visitors. The Director of Safety actively promotes a safe and healthy work environment; oversees the provision and coordination of safety training programs, and monitors safety processes and procedures for effectiveness.In this role your duties will include the following:Major Areas of ResponsibilityLeadership, development and implementation of safety initiativesOversight of safety investigations and risk management activitiesCollaboration with department senior managers on all matters relating to the Safety Management SystemPreparation and management of the Safety Services department budgetPrimary ObjectivesPromote the safety and health of the workforceMaintain a safety-oriented company culture that emphasizes quality, continuous improvement and high performance while balancing the overall associated costs.Specific ResponsibilitiesLeadership, development and implementation of all safety initiatives throughout Conair;Promoting a safety culture based on mutual commitment, accountability, professionalism and transparency;Establishing and maintaining an internal safety reporting and feedback system;Communication of all mandatory safety reports to safety regulators, accident investigation agencies and customers as per regulations and/or agreed protocols;Research, recommend and develop safety-related programs and training;Ensure the safety training program meets the requirements of each department and complies with applicable legislation;Coordinates and facilitates regular safety meetings;Oversight of investigations into incidents and accidents;Facilitation of formal hazard assessments;Preparing summary reports and recommendations for changes to safety policies, procedures and programs;Providing expert interpretation of safety regulations;Conducting periodic safety and operational audits;Monitoring and assessing WCB coverage, claims and costs;Liaising with external customers to obtain feedback on safety issues;Publication, amendment and distribution of the Conair Safety Management System Manual and related SMS documentation;Other related duties as assigned.We are looking for someone with :Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and administer programs and initiatives;Above average supervisory and people skills;Excellent communication skills, both oral and written;Excellent ability to speak and write in English;Demonstrated ability to gain employee respect and influence change;Knowledge of Transport Canada Regulations, Health & Safety Regulations, Canada Labour Code, Occupational Health & Safety and Workers Compensation Regulations;Ability to balance multiple tasks simultaneously;Must be able to travel within Canada & internationally.
