Our Health, Safety & Environment group is looking to add a Safety Advisor to support our Telecommunications Operations, based in Winnipeg, MB.Reporting to the Lead Safety Advisor, this position is responsible for promoting and reinforcing Valards world-class safety culture. You will provide leadership, guidance, and hands-on mentoring to supervisors, foremen, and field workers to ensure the consistent application of HSE policies and procedures. In addition to safety, this role also supports Quality inspections and audits for telecommunications projects.Please Note : this position will travel 25% of the timeDuties and ResponsibilitiesChampion and model Valards safety culture in the fieldBe a visible presence and safety resource in the field to ensure a safe work environment for all Valard employees, contractors, and visitors as per the Site Safety Management Plan (SMP)Communicate, coach and assist field staff to ensure that all safety expectations are metParticipate and assist the supervisors and foreman in the investigation of incidents to determine root cause, and corrective actionsParticipate in regular meetings with project safety teams to review issues, trends and upcoming conditions or events to ensure safety obligations are carried out as per client agreement and communicated to the Project Manager and SupervisorsReview tailboards daily to ensure that hazards are addressed, and a mitigation process is in place; provide feedback to workers to assist them for compliancePerform observations, inspections, emergency preparedness drills, as per the current HS&E Manual and review and communicate the findings via safety meetings and postingsFacilitate weekly safety meetings, capture minutes and prepare weekly / monthly safety reportsProvide support to the supervisors and foreman to ensure that JSAs are developed and reviewed with the crews and available at the work siteEnsure compliance with applicable legislation and company standardsSupport the Quality department with inspections, reports and quality audits as neededRequirementsHigh School Diploma3 years experience in a field safety positionA combination of education and experience may be consideredNational Construction Safety Officer CertificationExperience with Microsoft office applicationsProven experience performing audits and inspectionsHave and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract (a record) for reviewSuccessfully complete pre-employment checks as neededPreferred Skills / QualificationsPost-Secondary education in a related fieldCRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional), CRST (Canadian Registered Safety Technician) or other Health & Safety certificationDemonstrated familiarity with applicable provincial legislationsJob Posting End Date : July 27, 2025We offer a comprehensive and competitive total rewards package that incorporates a complete range of employee benefits, including an RRSP matching program, to ensure you have the tools necessary to manage, maintain, and improve your health and wellbeing.Valard Construction LP is Canadas premier utility contractor providing comprehensive EPC+ (engineering, procurement, construction) and maintenance services to utilities, independent power producers, mining, oil and gas industries and rural electric associations.
