Job Description

Under the general direction of the General Manager of Protective Services, reporting to the Fire Chief or designate, and stationed out of assigned station, the Lieutenant is responsible for the operational readiness of their assigned station. The position reports all activity and training needs based on operational requirements to the assigned Captain. The role also involves filling the role of Truck Officer during emergency responses as required.Position ResponsibilitiesDaily Operations:Ensure operational readiness of crew, apparatus, and equipment;Implement department goals, establish work priorities, and coordinate shift work;Manage payroll, training records, incident reports, and personnel records;Maintain station cleanliness and apparatus, tools, and equipment;Ensure station security during shifts;Advise the Captain on operational readiness;Report to the station on time in uniform;Operate as officer in charge during shifts;Recommend fire and rescue equipment for operations and training;Participate in and conduct training and public education activities;Follow instructions from the Captain;Adhere to county policies and fire department guidelines;Assist in organizational projects;Respond to emergency call-backs;Perform other duties as assigned.Emergency Response:Maintain knowledge of firefighting and EMS techniques;Maintain fitness and healthy lifestyle;Respond to emergencies as required;Assume command during incidents per county standards.Other:Perform additional duties as assigned.Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesMinimum Grade 12 or equivalent;Post-secondary degree considered an asset;NFPA standards 1001, 1041, 1002, 1021 certifications or equivalents;Standard First Aid Level C and CPR;Valid Class 3 Driver's License with air brake endorsement;Minimum two years of emergency service experience;Leadership experience is an asset;Completion of Defensive Driving and ICS courses is preferred.AttributesEffective communication and public interaction skills;Strong leadership qualities;Excellent organizational and time management skills;Ability to act as Incident Commander;Physical ability to perform emergency duties under various conditions;Willingness to travel regionally, including in emergencies;Availability for evening and weekend training sessions.The salary range is $73,474 to $91,108 annually, with a competitive benefits package.
