Position Overview: As the Payroll & Benefits Manager, you will be a key player in managing and overseeing all payroll, benefit program and total compensation processes across multiple Canadian provinces. Your expertise with Ceridian HRIS will be essential in ensuring the accuracy, compliance, and efficiency of payroll operations. This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead payroll and benefits initiatives, optimize systems, and serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for Ceridian HRIS. We are looking for an individual that is passionate about payroll and benefits, with high level of accuracy, hands-on experience and in-depth knowledge of payroll, ESA, taxation, and benefits. Responsibilities: Oversee and manage the end-to-end payroll process across various Canadian provinces, ensuring timely and accurate processing of payroll in compliance with local regulations; Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for Ceridian HRIS, providing guidance and support to the team on system functionalities, updates, and best practices. Ensure the correct implementation and administration of total compensation, including salaries, benefits, bonuses, and other forms of remuneration. Lead the implementation, and continuous improvement of payroll procedures, policies, and controls to enhance operational efficiency and compliance. Processes payroll, employee terminations; file Record of Employment (ROE), and year end documents (i.e. W2s, T4s, RL, T2200s)Work with insurance carriers to resolve any claim issues and prepares monthly insurance carrier remittance and manages all aspects of WSIB, WorkSafe B.C., CNESST, STD and LTD.Prepare and review payroll reports, audits (internal and/or external, regulatory), and reconciliations, ensuring data integrity, accuracy and timeliness. Engage in continuous learning activities to maintain expertise in payroll management and Ceridian HRIS functionalities. Maintain the employee benefits and retirement savings program administration, vendor relationship and contracting, employee enrollment and communication. Ensure that employee benefits and compensation records in applicable systems are accurate and are in compliance with benefit plan rules, internal policy and applicable legislation through monthly audits.Manage the reporting and investigation of workplace incidents, including injuries, illnesses, and near misses, and ensure all report to works compensation. Work as an integrated member of the Human Resources team; Leads HR data requirements for the organization. Prepare and distribute payroll reports to management and government agencies. Reports for commission, monthly cash flow for payroll and quarterly vacation accrual. Support employees with any issues/questions relating to payroll, benefits, pension, and compensation in general; Provide training to employees on topics relating to payroll and benefits as well as Ceridians Dayforce HRIS system. Provide back up support to prepare US payroll with PayChex and related tasks, as neededSupport US with benefits and 401K related tasks, employee questions, and audit information, as needed Support Manager with budgeting and other areas of Human Resources, when required and any other duties as assigned. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR Post-secondary education in a related discipline (payroll, business, accounting, or human resources).Completion or enrollment in Canadian Payroll Association certificate program: Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) or Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) required.7 to 10 years of progressive experience working in a complex payroll environment, retail experience would be an asset. Experience with other HR areas and SAP is a plus.Proven working knowledge of all provincial and federal employment standards, regulations and laws; establishes appropriate controls to ensure compliance with payroll processes, guidelines, company policy, legislative and regulatory requirementsExperience with US payroll in California, a plusProficient in all aspect of payroll reporting and audits.Strong technical capabilities, previous experience with one or more of the commonly used payroll/HRIS platforms.Experience with benefit and retirement program administration as well as designing benefits programs and implementing benefits solutions based on company needs.Excels at establishing and maintaining strong vendor relationships and managing associated contracts.Proven experience in compensation planning. Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving and critical-thinking skills; able to identify issues, propose viable solutions, and implement appropriate changes.High attention to detail and time management skills with the ability to adapt to change.Self-motivated; positive work ethic and the ability to function independently and in a team.Strong interpersonal, communication and customer service skills.
