We have collected data for >2.4 million admissions (constituting > 20 billion datapoints) from more than 35 hospitals in all regions of Ontario (caring for >65% of Ontarians), enabling research about quality of care and patient outcomes. The GEMINI data platform supports >1000 researchers, clinicians and students from all across Ontario, with >100 active projects. GEMINI has been a core dataset in >100 grants that have received more than $140M in funding, held at more than 13 different institutions. GEMINI has become a system-wide resource for research, quality measurement and innovations in hospital care, including in the areas of Artificial Intelligence and advanced data analytics, and supports the training of a wide variety of highly qualified personnel. GEMINI has a team of ~40 full-time employees at Unity Health Toronto, and has strong Executive Team composed of GEMINIs Principal Investigators and Directors of its data platform and national expansion projects. The Executive Team is supported by a strong Leadership Team of managers and research scientists. GEMINI has a wide range of key stakeholders Selected examples of key stakeholders include: Hospital Partners that provide data and translate research and quality findings into care improvement; Ontario Health, through which it supports the provincial General Medicine Quality Improvement Network, providing quality reporting to >600 physicians and >30 hospitals; the Ontario Ministry of Health, which provides funding for GEMINIs paediatric research and is a crucial knowledge user; the Canadian Institute for Health Information, to support innovation in hospital data use; Canadas Drug Agency, to advance appropriate use of drugs in hospitals; Choosing Wisely Canada to support a national initiative to improve appropriate use of laboratory testing in >150 hospitals; the Public Health Agency of Canada to address antimicrobial resistance and other areas of public health importance; ICES to advance data analytics capacity in Ontario; and the Vector Institute to advance health AI. Duties And Responsibilities Organizational Leadership (40% of work time) Serves as a member of GEMINIs Executive Team, contributing to the programs strategic directions. Leads a team of research managers, coordinators, and assistants to execute GEMINIs operational deliverables. This includes maintaining responsibility for HR aspects of the Directors team, ensuring a positive and inclusive culture, and providing mentorship and growth opportunities. Manages GEMINIs governance structures, including providing secretariat support to GEMINIs Multi-Institutional Steering Committee comprised of senior executives across Ontarios health system and patient and caregiver partners. Leads the coordination across GEMINIs internal teams for internal activities, taking a leadership role on coordinating Executive and Leadership Team Meetings, overseeing a team dedicated to enhancing office workplace culture through social and other activities, and supporting effective team functioning across the organization. This includes working with GEMINIs Executive Team to create leadership development opportunities and to instill processes for continuous improvement (e.g. performance feedback, project debriefs, etc.). Leads the implementation of a risk management framework for GEMINI, partnership with GEMINIs Executive Team. Leads the approach to monitoring organizational performance Leads GEMINIs Daily Operations (40% of work time) Leads GEMINIs business operations, maintaining accountability for financial management, including financial forecasting and budgeting and reporting back to funders. Contributes to GEMINIs business development and fundraising strategy with GEMINIs Executive Team. This includes overseeing, and having accountability for, the administrative aspects of grant submissions. Accountability for execution of legal agreements with partners, with support from Unity Health Torontos in-house legal counsel and external legal advice where needed (e.g. on nuanced questions related to data privacy). Manages research project administration, including research ethics board approvals, project intake and efficient processing, researcher on-boarding to the system, and reporting back to funders on completion of research activities. Leads administrative aspects of on-boarding of new hospitals to GEMINI, in partnership with GEMINIs Director of Data Science and Innovation who leads the data-related aspects. Supports GEMINIs Director of Data Science and Innovation on Data Governance activities Manages Stakeholder Relationships (20% of work time) Leads engagement with key health system stakeholders, with the specific engagements to be determined on an on-going basis with GEMINIs Principal Investigators and Executive Team. Initial responsibility will include overseeing engagement with Ontario Health for quality improvement-related activities. Qualifications, Knowledge And Skills Masters degree in a relevant field (e.g. science, public health, or management), PhD is an asset but not required, MBA preferred; Minimum 5 years of experience in a progressive Healthcare Management role; Minimum 7 10 years of relevant experience working with complex and dynamic teams and managing complex, large-scale projects; Proficiency in leading a team with demonstrated operational excellence, including excellent strategic planning and execution. Experience with financial management and reporting. Experience with managing federal and provincial funding agreements is an asset. Demonstrated track record of process optimization to enhance efficiency and streamline operations, including through the use of innovative technologies and tools. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Experience with change management and ability to lead in an uncertain and rapidly-evolving environment A passionate leader, capable of inspiring teams and fostering a culture of creativity, innovation, and collaboration. Strong track record of cultivating an inclusive and supportive work environment Demonstrated success in stakeholder relations. A collaborative leader, able to work effectively with other executives and team members. Experience with research operations is an asset, including strong familiarity with research ethics and data sharing. Experience with health data is an asset, including data governance, data analysis, and healthcare information systems. A successful track record in supporting acquisition of grant funding and strong grant management experience is an asset. Experience with organizational governance, including supporting advisory or governing bodies, and patient and caregiver engagement, is an asset.
