Job Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION The Director of Project Management and Process Engineering manages and controls the Engineering and Project Management Departments. The position is responsible for personnel within the two departments. NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION Internally, the Director of Project Management and Process Engineering interacts primarily with Directors, Sales, skilled trades, Team Leads, and Designers, as well as PWO personnel from the Production, Logistics and Quality Departments. The position is responsible for all processes, and for ensuring that new projects are completed successfully and on time. The position provides the technical leadership, guidance and expertise to ensure all manufacturing processes follow best practices as defined by the PWO Group. The position is also responsible for all customer and internally initiated engineering changes. External contacts consist of customers, suppliers, PWO AG and sister companies. The incumbent manages the work of others and makes decisions regarding engineering, purchases, expenses, human resources, and remuneration within the department. QUALIFICATIONS Education: Completion of a post-secondary education in Engineering, or a relevant program is required. A Professional Engineer (P Eng) designation is an asset. Knowledge and Skills: The position must have an excellent understanding of project management and engineering for current and potential business for customers. The position requires the ability to use Microsoft Office and MRP systems. Management skills such as delegation, problem solving, organization, time management, interpersonal and leadership are required. Communication Skills: Organized, calm disposition and strong communication skills to interact with management, customers, co-workers and subordinates. Nature and Length of Experience: At least five years'' experience in a similar job and manufacturing environment is preferred. RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Oversees management of all new projects from start to finish, including the development of process, assembly line concepts, design reviews, implementation, performance, capacity planning, investment and manpower planning. 2. Manages product change management, creates and maintains project plans, monitors and controls timelines, budgets and project scopes. 3. Provides project status updates to upper management. 4. Ensures that all customer demands are met on time. 5. Monitors the annual budget for all projects. 6. Initiates continuous improvement projects to drive cost-saving initiatives. 7. Provides theoretical and engineering know-how helping to drive and manage the continuous improvement efforts for all in-house manufacturing activities. 8. Provides technical leadership, guidance and expertise to ensure the manufacturing processes follow best practices as defined by the PWO Group. 9. Oversees creation of protocols and specifications, manages the progress of processes from design to implementation, and gets the necessary sign-offs prior to start of production. 10. Evaluates existing and future state product designs and their processes, (capability, sustainability and capacity), at the appropriate stages of fabrication of the production systems by integrating with the Product/Process Engineering and Project Management teams to achieve the highest levels of safety, quality and production (our target is zero defects and zero ppm). 11. Manages development and revision of existing work instructions required in the Work Area Reference manuals for each of the work centers on the production floor. 12. Responsible for ensuring the capability of all manufacturing processes within the plant. 13. Oversees implementation of engineering changes to ensure customer satisfaction. 14. Manages all staff to ensure work completion. 15. Ensures the department follows the annual business plan. 16. Responsible for the hiring, training, evaluation and discipline of all staff within the department. 17. Proper use of electronic data collection equipment. 18. Performs all duties within the 5S standards. 19. Following and performing the instructions as listed in the Work Area Reference Manual(s) applicable to the department. 20. Compliance to all company policies and procedures. 21. Responsible for working safely, complying with safety policies and procedures, and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) required in the designated areas as per company policy. 22. Responsible for working safely and keeping a safe work area for themselves and fellow employees. 23. Manages the work performed and work area to comply with all safety requirements for all staff. Manages and coordinates the corrective measures for all unsafe work conditions and personal injuries for all staff.
