Job Description

Overview / Aperu The Quality Assurance Manager provides leadership and direction for the quality function to support the Service Center Manager in implementing GATX Maintenance Group Strategic Initiatives. The role involves managing the quality management system to ensure regulatory and GATX compliance and leading quality personnel including the Quality Assurance Supervisor, Quality Control Leads, and outbound Inspectors. The position acts as a technical liaison for investigating and resolving car issues, customer complaints, and audit findings. It requires extensive research and analysis of quality and maintenance issues. As a key, independent, cross-functional role, it significantly contributes to the GATX Maintenance Group''s objectives. The Manager of Quality Assurance is also a member of the Senior Leadership Team at the Red Deer facility. Responsibilities / Responsabilits Lead, manage, and develop the quality system and processes to ensure customer, regulatory, and company requirements are met. Provide leadership to the Quality Assurance Supervisor, Quality Control Leads, and other team members, fostering positive change within the Repair Center. Set clear performance goals, provide feedback, and support their growth and development, ensuring a respectful and inclusive work environment. Analyze customer rejects and inspection defects, communicating findings to supervisors and supporting reduction plans aligned with Maintenance Group initiatives. Oversee the audit process, including AAR audits, internal, and process audits, to continually improve quality processes. Manage documentation related to the quality system, such as Quality Procedures, Fleet Maintenance Instructions, Engineering Notices, and Qualification records. Participate in cross-functional teams to evaluate and improve processes aligned with GATX initiatives. Serve as a technical liaison for quality issues with regulatory bodies and GATX Rail North America functions. Qualifications / Qualification Education and/or Experience Required (including certifications): Bachelors degree in Engineering, Operations, or related field, or an Associates Degree with equivalent experience. At least five (5) years experience in related industry, including quality management (TQM, ISO 9000, M1003, SPC, Preventive Maintenance, etc.). Previous supervisory experience preferred. Completion (or ability to complete within the first year) of one of the following: AAR Auditor Qualified Advanced Class, Excel Auditor-Internal Auditing for ISO 9001, or ASQ Certified Auditor. Knowledge of structured problem-solving practices (e.g., Kepner Tregoe, 5-WHYs) and quality improvement methodologies such as Lean or Six Sigma; formal training and certification are desirable.
