Position Summary: Applications are invited from qualified individuals to instruct in the Health Care Assistant Certificate program at the North Island College Port Alberni campus. This instructional assignment, up to 100%, involves teaching practice courses to a Health Care Assistant cohort via face-to-face and online delivery methods. Practicum placements will take place in a variety of practice settings within Port Alberni and may require travel. Applicants need to have access to reliable transportation. The successful candidate will implement creative strategies in the preparation and delivery of practice activities; use initiative in providing documentation and follow-up regarding student concerns and problem resolution; and bring facilitation skills to management of conflict. The schedule for this assignment will be flexible to meet the needs of the program. Duties & Responsibilities: To plan and prepare learning materials for instructional environments. To use a variety of approaches and materials to address different learning needs. To teach in assigned subject areas and include all required subject matter or skill activity in courses and course outlines. To direct student learning in a positive, supportive, and caring environment. To be available to students regularly during scheduled office hours and classroom hours. To clearly communicate in writing learning outcomes for programs and courses. To design and conduct evaluations or appraisals of students and keep students informed of their progress. To submit grades in a timely manner. To maintain records of student enrollment and achievement. Required Education & Experience: Practical Nursing credential or BSN degree. Two years experience teaching adults, preferably at the post-secondary level. Work experience in gerontics. Extensive experience working with Older Adults. A combination of education and experience may be considered. Provincial Instructor diploma preferred. Experience with Indigenous pedagogies and culture. Current registration with BCCNM (inclusive of Criminal Record). CPR Level HCP required. Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities: Experience using a variety of creative and motivating approaches to stimulate learning. Ability to demonstrate effective team behaviors and support cooperative working relationships. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills. Experience with online learning management systems. Proficiency in the use of computer applications, the internet, and MS Office software applications. Valid BC drivers license and access to a reliable vehicle is required.
