This role will help lead financial and accounting operations across Humanis two legal entities (Canada and the USA). The primary responsibilities of this role are: To manage Finance and Operations activities as outlined in the responsibilities below Support deeper financial analysis, forecasting and maintaining month-end and year-end financial reports alongside the CFO To set goals and work towards achieving Humanis Corporate KPIs. You have a breadth of knowledge of Finance and Accounting, Tax regulations in Canada and familiarity or experience in the USA, and business operations. You bring skills in financial analysis, attention to detail, and stellar written and verbal communication, along with an ability to work independently and drive business results. You thrive in environments where you dont know the answer but are willing to do the work and figure it out. We are looking for an Ontario-based Finance Manager to join our team. At Humani, our hybrid work model means working primarily remotely, with onsite support or team gatherings from time to time based on business needs. As such, 10% local and international travel may be required from time to time. What You Will Do Financial Operations & Reporting: Maintain accurate general ledgers and reconciliation Lead the month-end invoicing process Lead AR and AP functions, processes, and optimize for efficiency Manage the expense process and upgrade our day to day workflow Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow modelling Partner with People & Ops to support payroll and benefits accounting Assist with ad hoc financial analyses to support business decisions Interact with our bankers to support day-to-day banking relationships, credit applications and renewals Tax & Compliance: Coordinate with external tax advisors in both countries Ensure compliance with sales tax, corporate income tax, and payroll tax (Canada and the US) Build or enhance financial models, dashboards, and reporting tools using advanced Excel, VBA, and automation techniques Participate in the development, maintenance and follow-through of Humani Financial policies, procedures, and practices to reduce manual work across finance and operations Identify and implement tools to streamline recurring reporting or reconciliations Operations & Other Tasks: Support bookkeeping and the invoicing process Creating and maintaining a strategic reporting and analytics tool that supports Operations and the business of Humani Manage insurance policy applications and renewals Participate in management and resourcing and other meetings to manage role responsibilities Regularly track and report on department KPIs including, but not limited to: team productivity; client satisfaction; growth of existing accounts and new client onboarding. Maintain relevant business/operations/client trackers with accurate information Identify trends and opportunities for increased operational efficiency and business growth Manage payroll for both our Canadian and US businesses Manage benefits reporting and reconciliation for both our Canadian and US businesses Other tasks as required to support the CFO and the Finance Team Your Skill Set Finance, Accounting and Tax Compliance: Well-versed in Canadian, and familiarity or experience with US, Financial and Tax Regulations and other policy regulations as required. Technology and Finance Software: Experience with Financial Systems such as QuickBooks, Advanced Excel skills including VBA/macros, Payroll software experience is an asset Attention to Detail: Excellent attention to detail and ability to make deliverables (documents, PowerPoints, Excel reports, etc.) accurately. Data & Financial Analysis: Ability to analyze data, documents, reports, etc., with meticulous attention to detail and gather trends and insights. Communication and Interpersonal Skills: This role requires you to interact with many professional internal and external stakeholders. You must be able to communicate verbally and in writing in a professional and exceptional manner at all times. Time Management: Self-motivated and the ability to be flexible to meet business needs and project deadlines. Organizational skills: Ensuring the work you do and AP/AR/month-end processes and documents are filed accurately for bookkeeping and audit purposes in an organized and timely fashion Who You Are A minimum of 5-8 years of progressive experience in Finance or Accounting, ideally in a small or medium-sized fast-growing scale-up business A degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or related field or equivalent relevant experience. Ability to lead team members directly or indirectly effectively. Experience working with multiple vendors and managing those relationships. CPA, CA, or equivalent designation, CFA is a plus, but not required with the requisite experience Confidentiality and Integrity: Experience managing confidential and sensitive information regarding the business. A true passion for Finance: Experience building Financial systems, infrastructure, processes from scratch and keeping an eye out for the latest trends and changes to best practices! Problem Solving/Entrepreneurial: Ability to work through a problem with limited information and to take a problem or situation to the next steps and roll up the sleeves to get the work done. Self-motivation and self-discipline: This is a highly autonomous role where you work independently, supporting the business and must be self-motivated to complete work promptly with minimal oversight.
