You will bring experience and knowledge in: Operating machines with coaching Safety and quality standards for operating machines Reading and writing, and fluently conversant in the language of communication as appropriate to the site Collaborating well in a diverse work environment More About This Role Line Manager (Shift In Charge) Reporting to the Manufacturing Manager, the Line Manager is responsible for upholding excellence on a high-speed production line in a food manufacturing environment. The Line Manager is responsible for supervising and working with operators on the line in order to meet production targets and uphold the highest safety and quality standard. Line Managers are responsible for the day-to-day manufacturing operations on a designated area (Packaging consisting of 7 Bagging Lines and 1 Stick Line). The Line Manager provides leadership, direction, development, and support to line operators through empowerment, teamwork, on-the-job assignments, and continuous improvement initiatives. As a Line Manager, you will be responsible for the supervision of an hourly workforce, providing direction, leadership, and helping the development of your team members. Without your dedication, hard work, positive attitude, and leadership, there is no product for the customer to enjoy. Key Accountabilities Provide information and direction to your team to achieve Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and Morale goals. Safety (TIR, QRP/STOP, BOS) Quality (RFT, CCPM, Quality Conversations) Cost (GE, Labour, Raw, Pack) Delivery (CTS, Attainment/CTS) Morale (Kaizens, RCA participation & completion, Training completion as per skill matrix) Ensure relevant OSHA regulations are fully complied with, including personal protective equipment, fall protection, forklift and hazard communication requirements. Thoroughly investigate all accidents and complete accident report on the date of occurrence. Follow and administer Quality Policies and Procedures including food safety, HAACP, traceability, and production hold investigations. Maintain high standards of Good Manufacturing Practices and housekeeping in the department. Drive to achieve the lowest cost. Achieve cost goals for line, shift, and facility. Partner with maintenance personnel to improve efficiency and UPTIME in the line. Ensure that all department employees are properly oriented and trained. Evaluate performance and recommend areas of improvements as appropriate. Accountable for employees performance management, attendance tracking, training documentation, and coordination of overtime. Lead the development of work practices that promote autonomy and accountability at all levels. Support operators to troubleshoot equipment if an error is encountered. Participate in change-over and sanitation activities along with Line Operators. Facilitate the accurate assessment of performance and implementation of ideas. Work across departments including production, continuous improvement, maintenance, quality, and finance in order to ensure process sustainability tools are understood and utilized regularly, with a focus on employee understanding and application of these tools. Ensure that packaging processes are aligned to drive process and product sustainability. Develop and update these process sustainability tools as needed, with an emphasis on enabling process owners to own tools in their respective areas. Responsible for establishing ownership of document accuracy on the floor and the process to ensure they are updated and match team site documents. Engage and coach employees on process sustainability best practices, including home settings, run rules, one-point lessons, and deviation forms. Get feedback from employees on the floor on a regular basis to assess understanding and application of best practices. Adjust plans accordingly depending on employee feedback. Participate as a member of a focus team and leverage process check information to improve process sustainability. Evaluate and assess employees to determine training needs and develop employees to improve their knowledge and application of process sustainability tools (e.g. home settings, run rules, deviation forms, checklists, and one-point lessons). Establish procedures for consistent start-up, shutdown, and clean-up of each process. Partner with the continuous improvement department in order to develop strategic and tactical plan and ensure alignment with annual operational objectives. Responsible for leading his/her team to run production on the line while ensuring that Safety, Quality, and Cost targets are met. Responsible for leading his/her team to follow all safety guidelines, good manufacturing practices, and quality systems by being the role model for his/her team to follow. Responsible for leading his/her team to use predefined center lines in order to produce within product specifications. Responsible for leading his/her team to perform the predefined quality tests on the product and package while running production in order to guarantee compliance to our quality program. Responsible for leading his/her team to identify defects on equipment using abnormalities tags, correct the right type of defects, and communicate to the maintenance department the types of defects that cant be corrected by operators in order to maintain the integrity of equipment and sustain production. Responsible for leading his/her team to perform on the equipment the predefined cleaning, inspection, and lubrication tasks as scheduled in order to maintain the integrity of the equipment and sustain production. Responsible for leading his/her team to perform the standard operating procedures for start-up, shutdown, and clean-up on the various equipment on the line Responsible for leading his/her team to identify areas of opportunities for improvement, define action plans, and implement Kaizens. Responsible for leading his/her team in increasing their troubleshooting skills and on the equipment and processes in order to promote the culture of autonomous operational teams. Responsible for leading his/her team to perform all change over and sanitation procedures as predefined in order to complete them with the minimum possible DOWNTIME. Autonomous maintenance (AM) Step 4 systems and progressive maintenance (PM) Step 3 systems. Maintaining equipment at basic conditions independently, including the execution of AM & PM (break-down maintenance, planned maintenance) standards on dedicated equipment. Total productive maintenance and Six Sigma including qualification of AM steps 5-6, and PM step 3. Manage the staffing process to ensure colleagues are trained and have the necessary skills to perform all required duties, safely and effectively. Review findings and identify root causes & ensure corrective actions are completed. Ensure BOS and QRP targets for him/her team are met Deliver quality product that is in-specification and right first time. Initiate and drive root cause identification activities and implement corrective action and preventative action plans for line losses. Promote and maintain good employee relations on the line, both personally and through the Line Leader team. Lead the Line Leader team, providing coaching and counselling in conjunction with regular reviews and training. Engage line teams in implementing IL6S work processes for necessary pillars and achieve sustainable results. Be a member of the AM pillar and qualify in assigned work process to help building core team capabilities. Owner of daily management system (DMS). Owner of GE/UPDT/PDT/Stops gap analysis driving actions to reduce it according to glidepath. Work with the Maintenance Planner and Site Scheduler to ensure delivery commitments are achieved. Leverage RCA methodology to investigate problems resulting in attainment misses and implement corrective actions. Monitor line performance and ensure output, labour and material yield standards are achieved. Maintain a critical work plan for the line, to systematically address problems and implement improvements to achieve productivity targets. Ensure labour standards are met and consistently applied by on his/her shift across all lines. Prepare KPIs and reports for use at the Daily Management System meetings, and to communicate performance to the Site Leadership team and Line teams. Provide training on CI tools and techniques. You will also help departments follow our established daily management system (DMS). Help teams collect data or extract it from the system to support CI activities and the DMS. Facilitate root-cause analysis to address identified losses and departmental KPI scorecard gaps. Establish new work standards to sustain improvement. Train and qualify colleagues on CI tools and new work standards resulting from CI activities. Accountable for discipline management, ensuring team members meet behavioral and performance expectations in alignment with company policies. Responsible for the management of temporary workers including training and day-to-day supervision to support operational needs. Qualifications A 4-year BS/BA degree in engineering is preferred. High school diploma or equivalent is required. 2 to5 years of operational experience. 2 to 5 years of Leadership experience. 2 to 5 years of ContinuousImprovement experience. Prior technical experience in processing and packaging in food manufacturing is desired. Computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook is required. Prior experience in Lean Six Sigma is desired. Exceptional English communication (verbal and written) skills required. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to influence without authority is required. Demonstrated skills in conflict management and fair management practices is required. Demonstrated ability to lead and provide direction to teams is required. Demonstrated ability to coach and develop teams is required. Must be able to work any shift, weekends and overtime as needed.
