If you are a detail-oriented professional with a strong understanding of Global customs compliance predominantly imports into the Canadian and US markets, a passion for cross-functional collaboration, and the knowledge and skills to navigate regulatory requirements and trade documentation with confidence, this is the opportunity for you, experience of working in entrepreneurial, owner led environments is highly advantageous.YOUR ROLE IN THE COMPANY:As our Customs Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with customs regulations and trade agreements. You will work closely with internal departments, customs brokers, freight forwarders, and government agencies to ensure the efficient and compliant movement of goods. Your expertise in classification, valuation, and documentation will help minimize risk, reduce costs, and support our ongoing operational excellence.We are looking for a creative problem solver, with the ability to work closely with our product design and development teams to ensure the duty is optimised at the NPD stage. AS WELL AS:Classify and value imported goods in accordance with CBP & CBSA regulations and the Harmonized System (HS).Prepare and submit accurate customs declarations, invoices, and certificates of origin for all shipments.Manage and respond to USMCA/CUSMA requests, including timely completion and documentation.Monitor and review tariff codes to ensure accurate duty classification and cost control.Track and analyze landed costs, duty payments, and import-related expenses to optimize budget forecasting.Maintain records to support classification decisions and facilitate internal or CBP / CBSA audits.Communicate directly with brokers, freight forwarders, and government agencies to resolve customs issues and ensure clearance efficiency.Liaise with product development and marketing teams to ensure customs classifications are considered during the development of new products.Identify opportunities to apply for duty drawback programs, tariff exemptions, and leverage relevant free trade agreements.Produce reports analyzing duty costs, impact to the business, and commercial performance as it relates to customs compliance.Determine and document export customs classifications.Support internal customs audits and assist with SIMA (Special Import Measures Act) compliance.Provide excellent customer service to both internal and external stakeholders by ensuring prompt and accurate information exchange.Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance customs operations and reduce risk.OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE:Experience in owner operated businesses who has transitioned these environments to be more professional while retaining the key entrepreneurial aspects that have made the company successful.High school diploma required, post-secondary education in international trade, supply chain, or a related field preferred.Minimum of 4 years of current experience in customs brokerage, import/export, or logistics.Strong understanding of US, Canadian, UK & EU customs regulations, HS codes, international trade documentation, and compliance requirements.Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.Effective written and oral communication skills.Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple competing deadlines.High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word) and the ability to learn internal software quickly.Customer focused with excellent interpersonal skills and a problem-solving mindset.Experience supporting CBP / CBSA audits and compliance projects is an asset.Familiarity with export regulations, OGD requirements, and SIMA related procedures is a plus.WHAT YOULL NEED TO SUCCEED:A proactive and adaptable mindset with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.A high level of integrity and a commitment to regulatory compliance.Confidence in managing documentation, data analysis, and reporting.Desire to contribute to continuous improvement and operational excellence.WHAT TO EXPECT AT OUR OFFICES:High degree of computer-based tasks, including documentation review, system entry, and compliance tracking as well as producing & developing reports.WHY YOULL WANT TO JOIN OUR TEAM: Hybrid work schedule (3 office days per week) after successful probationary period Health and dental benefitsSupportive, growing team environmentOpportunity to contribute to a dynamic company in a growing industry!At Upper Canada Soap, we value the unique skills and experiences that each individual brings to our team and welcome all interested candidates to apply.
