Reporting to the Leader, Project Delivery, as the Senior Buildings Engineer, you will deliver vertical infrastructure projects with high levels of complexity and project values in range of approximately $50M - $200M such as recreation facilities, firehalls, operations facilities, libraries, mixed-use sites and other important City infrastructure. You will manage the design, construction, and closeout of these complex capital projects that can entail new buildings, additions, or major renovations. Close coordination with business units and service lines across the corporation to ensure successful delivery of projects will be required. As a Professional Engineer in the Buildings and Architecture division, you will also support a team of internal engineers, architects and project managers to deliver expertise on City of Calgary projects. Primary duties include: * Hire architectural and engineering consultants and contractors, managing the procurement process and ensuring deliverables adhere to the established schedule, quality, and budget. * Independently manage design, construction and handover of high risk and complex capital projects * Manage and administer contracts to ensure they meet project specifications; review and approve change orders and contract extensions as required. * Identify potential project risks and use a broad perspective of professional engineering judgement to develop, implement and manage mitigation strategies. * Provide design guidance to consultants ensuring that projects meet project goals, design guidelines and standards. * May lead project or program teams including internal staff and administrators when required. * Use technical engineering knowledge and experience to solve complex problems with innovative solutions. * Develop and deliver ongoing progress reports to interested parties, including senior management and Council. * Develop and sustain strategic and working relationships with internal and external customers, industry, community and business organizations, contributors, and partners to facilitate excellence in service and capital project delivery. * Support in creating and maintaining guidelines, standards and policies that govern engineering design and construction. **Qualifications** * A degree in Engineering and at least 8 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work.
