We are seeking a Heavy Equipment Technician (HET) Apprentice who has obtained a Transport and Heavy Equipment Technology diploma aligned with Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT) curriculum for Heavy Equipment Technicians periods one through four. Primary duties include: * Work with a journeyperson technician performing planned maintenance work as well as diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair of vehicles and equipment. * Follow a preventative maintenance program on a large variety of equipment. * Enter work order information into the fleet management system. * Perform repairs and/or replace defective parts, components or systems, using both hand and power tools, measuring instruments and software programs. **Qualifications** * A Transport and Heavy Equipment Technology diploma aligned with Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT) curriculum for Heavy Equipment Technicians periods one through four. * Successful completion of the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT) exams for Heavy Equipment Technician periods 1 through 4. * A valid Class 5 Driver''s License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending. * Ability to obtain a valid Class 3 Driver''s License (or provincial equivalent) with an air brake endorsement (Q) to be completed within three months of hire. * An original driver''s abstract no older than 60 days from all jurisdictions in which you have been a licensed driver in the past 2 years. * Experience using computerized diagnostic programs and the ability to create clear and concise work order job notes and reports of completed work. * Completion of a voluntary or cooperative work term in industry and registration as an apprentice would be considered an asset. **Working Conditions:** Working in a shop environment with moving vehicles, parts, and tools, surrounding noise, chemicals, and vehicle fumes. Some work must be performed outdoors occasionally or within tight spaces requiring physically demanding postures. Ability to lift 20kg (45lbs) daily. **Pre-employment Requirements** * A security clearance will be conducted. * Must obtain a City of Calgary operator''s permit. * Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. **Pre-employment Drug Test:** An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months. Union: CUPE Local 37 Business Unit: Fleet and Inventory Position Type: 1 Temporary Location: Various Compensation: $33.59 - 46.82 per hour Out-Of-Schedule rate: $35.46 - 49.42 per hour This position is presently paid at an Out-of-Schedule rate to reflect current market conditions. Should market conditions change, the salary may be reviewed and may revert to the base rate. Days of Work: This position works various shifts including evenings and weekends.
