To set up, adjust and operate conventional machinery such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, drill presses, etc. to machine parts and components to specifications and drawing tolerances in the time frames allotted by the production order, all while adhering to Risk Assessment requirements as they apply to each operation, machine or process.Key AccountabilitiesAdhere to all Risk Assessment requirements for the equipment being used.Consistently deliver acceptable parts in the time frames budgeted.Support of apprentices and less skilled machinists in set up and operation of equipment.Offer advice to design group when requested.Recommend/adapt to improvements in tools, processes, and procedures.Contribute to Tool Box talks and other communications.Key Experience and QualificationsHas recognized certification of trade as a machinist or evidence of experience by demonstrating a full knowledge of machining practicesCalculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers, vernier calipers & dial indicatorsHas the skill to improvise and develop solutions to machine components with the condition and type of machine tool availableDemonstrate knowledge of safe handling of materials, machining practices, and the ability to recognize unsafe situationsRead and understand complex drawings and other instructions.Determine proper sequence of operations and machines to produce dimensionally acceptable parts.Ability to recognize and Identify various raw materials.Communicate well with others (peers, and supervisors).Evaluate alternative procedures and recommend changes or modifications for improved efficiency and adaptability for setup and productionCreate fixtures and or modified tooling to aid in machining parts to meet special engineering needs.
