Consultant Psychiatrist & Medical Director We are seeking an experienced full-time Consultant Psychiatrist and Medical Director to work at Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke, providing senior medical cover on Knightstone Ward, our 15-bed specialized rehabilitation service for women with personality disorder and complex needs. The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician, overseeing and maintaining the care of all ward inpatients as required. They will also be responsible for auditing the medical services at the ward to ensure quality in accordance with GMC standards and other professional guidelines. The role also includes being the Medical Director at Cygnet Kewstoke, a 71-bed hospital offering emergency admissions for men and women, and a pathway for women to rehabilitation, including a specialized service for personality disorder. Your expertise will drive life-changing treatments, supported by a Specialty Doctor and a multidisciplinary team including nurses, psychologists, and occupational therapists. Main duties of the job Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke has a ''Good'' CQC rating, providing emergency services and a rehabilitation pathway for women with personality disorder. Knightstone Ward is a specialized service for assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation for women with complex needs. The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician, responsible for patient treatment and liaising with the multidisciplinary team. They will act as a positive role model, demonstrating a positive attitude towards patients, families, visitors, and staff. Job responsibilities Job Title: Consultant Psychiatrist & Medical Director Accountable to: Regional Medical Director Responsible to: Hospital Manager We seek an experienced full-time Consultant Psychiatrist and Medical Director at Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke, providing senior medical cover on Knightstone Ward, a specialized service for women with personality disorder and complex needs. The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician, overseeing inpatient care and auditing medical services to ensure quality standards are met. This is a full-time position with 0.2 WTE as Medical Director and 0.8 WTE as Consultant Psychiatrist. Main duties and responsibilities As Medical Director: Ensure optimal clinical outcomes Lead clinical practice and operational excellence Provide leadership and monitor medical staff performance Supervise consultants and ensure supervision of SDs and ASs Support within the service and to the wider team Ensure quality and compliance with standards and regulations Work with colleagues for integrated treatment and care Maintain communication with medical staff Assist in recruitment and retention Involve medical staff in governance Implement CQC outcomes with hospital managers Chair medical advisory meetings and attend director meetings Liaise on fitness to practice concerns As a Consultant Psychiatrist: Lead high-quality care for Knightstone Ward Model positive attitudes towards patients and staff Take responsibility for patient treatment plans Assess referrals and conduct mental state examinations Perform investigations, diagnosis, and treatment Conduct ward rounds, reviews, and audits Lead risk assessments and clinical governance Supervise reports for tribunals and attend hearings Liaise with the Ministry of Justice for patient transfers and leave approvals Person Specification General Requirements Please refer to the job description above Please refer to the job description above Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
