Role We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Engineer with deep expertise in the Microsoft Azure data ecosystem to join our growing technology team. This role is pivotal in building and maintaining secure, scalable, and high-performance data platforms that power analytics, reporting, and digital services across the enterprise. As a Senior Data Engineer, you will design, develop, and optimize complex data pipelines and infrastructure in a hybrid environment, working closely with both internal teams and external development partners. The ideal candidate has strong experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, Azure Data Lake, Databricks, Synapse Analytics, Event Hubs , and is comfortable taking on DevOps responsibilities . Responsibilities Build scalable, performant, supportable, and reliable data pipelines, optimizing data systems from the ground up. Ingest data from various sources such as databases, files, APIs, and streaming platforms into Azure. Design, build, and manage scalable data pipelines and workflows using Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Azure SQL, and Synapse Analytics Oversee the process of development and maintenance within the data lake and data warehouse, within Azure Data Lake and Synapse. Perform data transformation and processing tasks to prepare the data for analysis and reporting. Implement real-time data ingestion and processing using Event Hubs and Databricks Structured Streaming Design and optimize ETL/ELT processes for both batch and streaming data Collaborate with internal teams and external development partners to align on data architecture and integration strategies Design and implement data models for analytical workloads. Support the collection of metadata into our data catalogue system, ensuring accurate maintenance and cataloging of data. Automate data pipelines, monitor data processes, and manage deployments. Deploy infrastructure as code and manage environments using CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Azure DevOps) Ensure data governance and security practices are implemented using tools like Purview. Set-up data access controls, implement encryption, monitor data quality, and establish data retention policies. Ensure compliance with data security, privacy, and regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, financial regulations) Collaborate with data analysts, scientists, and business stakeholders to deliver reliable, well-documented datasets Monitor system performance and proactively troubleshoot issues across data platforms Mentor and provide leadership to junior engineers and 3rd parties on best practices development and DevOps in Azure Technical Soft Skills Strong customer engagement skills to understand customer needs for analytics solutions fully. Experience in leading small and large teams in delivering analytics solutions for customers Have demonstrated ability to define, develop and implement data models and supporting policies, standards, and guidelines. Strong data analysis and analytical skills. Have demonstrated the ability to guide the development of data requirements for projects and drive a user experience that is easy to use and delivers the right information at the right time. Experience in working in a fast-paced agile environment Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills This is a hands-on data engineering role. Only candidates with prior Microsoft Azure data engineering experience will be considered. Qualifications 510 years of professional experience in data engineering, including senior-level or lead responsibilities Proven expertise with the Azure data stack, including: Azure Data Factory Azure SQL / Synapse Analytics Azure Data Lake (Gen2) Event Hubs Databricks (Python-based) Azure Purview Proficient in Python and SQL for data processing and scripting Knowledge of C# and Hands-on with Powershell scripting is desirable.
