The GIM NP will practice within the interprofessional team model and be primarily responsible for direct patient care, as well as providing consultative service for comprehensive assessments and care planning for patients with complex health issues. Through clinical consultation, staff education and research, the NP will promote best practices in adult care across the organization. The GIM NP will also participate in program evaluation. The GIM NP is a Registered Nurse in the Extended Class with the College of Nurses of Ontario, who provides comprehensive advanced practice nursing services including health promotion, disease and injury prevention, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and support for adult in-patients under the care of the Medical Program. The NP has advanced knowledge and decision-making skills, in providing comprehensive health focused approach in meeting the health needs of this group of patients. The GIM NP provides patient care in accordance with legislative acts and frameworks guiding NP practice such as those from the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), the Regulated Health Professionals Act (RHPA), the Public Hospitals Act, the Nursing Act and established medical directives. The NP will demonstrate competency to autonomously diagnose, order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe pharmaceuticals and perform procedures within the RN(EC) legislated scope of practice and designated medical directives, as appropriate. Telephone follow-up post-discharge, home visits, external capacity building exercises, travel between sites, weekend and after-hours coverage may be required. What you bring to the role: * Masters degree in Nursing * Current certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario as an RN (EC) - Nurse Practitioner-Primary Health Care (PHCNP) or Nurse Practitioner-Adult (NP-Adult) * Minimum of 3 5 years of current expertise in the care of the adult medical and/or geriatric population * Certification in hemisphere 3.0 or equivalent is preferred. * Demonstrated ability and knowledge of reading MRIs and CTAs. * Membership in the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario * Membership in the Nurse Practitioner Association of Ontario, preferred * National certification in Gerontology Nursing from the Canadian Nurses Association, preferred * Specialty certifications related to the area of expertise * Advanced clinical knowledge and implementation of evidence-based practice * Superior interpersonal, coaching and leadership skills * Excellent decision making, problem recognition and problem solving skills * Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development * Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, IMPAX and electronic medical record * A strong desire and capacity to promote professional practice and excellence * Demonstrated good attendance and performance records with the ability to maintain these same standards * Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required Work Schedule: Successful candidate must be available to work 7.5hr shifts, Monday-Friday.
