ABOUT THIS CAREER OPPORTUNITY Black & McDonalds Southern Ontario team is growing! If so, and if you have what it takes, this may be just the right path for you! The Chief Estimator is based in Scarborough, Ontario, and typically works directly with the General Manager. The Chief Mechanical Estimator role involves working on a full range of mechanical projects in the industrial, commercial, government, and institutional markets. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Leading a team of Estimators specializing in Mechanical ICI Construction, preparing estimates of probable costs of materials, labour, subcontractors, and equipment based on contract bids, quotations, schematic drawings, and specifications. Advising on tendering procedures, examining and analyzing tenders, recommending tender awards, and conducting negotiations. Establishing and maintaining tendering processes and setting up cost monitoring and reporting systems. Coordinating price packages with suppliers, subcontractors, owners, designers, and architects regarding tenders. Overseeing site review, tender review, tender hand-off, project closing, and operational/sector meetings with the Division Manager, General Manager, Project Manager, and Purchasing as required. Maintaining the directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors. Liaising, consulting, and communicating with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors; preparing economic feasibility studies on changes and adjustments to cost estimates. Maintaining industry presence to ensure continuity of work now and in the future. Keeping abreast of new technology within the mechanical contracting industry to ensure estimates include the most up-to-date construction methods and procedures. Conducting material and equipment purchasing for secured jobs. Traveling to various sites or clients as needed. WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS 15-20 years of experience as a Mechanical Estimator on ICI projects valued at $10M or higher. SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS Advanced knowledge and understanding of: Working with deadlines and motivation to succeed Contract management Construction scheduling, planning, and execution Interpreting mechanical drawings Trade fluency in plumbing, hydronic, HVAC Organization and time management Self-driven leadership abilities P.Eng. or CET designation is an asset Project management experience is an asset Proficiency in: MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Projects) Autobid Mechanical (QuickPen) Accubid Change Order Pro Black & McDonald values diversity and encourages applications from persons with disabilities.
