Location This is a Hybrid position. Our Support Centre is based in Toronto, and we offer remote work. Job Description The Legal Counsel will be responsible for providing legal advice, execution and coordination relating to general corporate matters, acquisitions, leasing, securities, regulatory and employment law, working closely where required with external legal advisors, while being responsible for closely managing Neighbourlys legal expenses. Reporting to our Chief Development Officer, the successful candidate will ideally be an experienced individual, with experience either at a leading law firm or within a medium to large company. The successful candidate will have a hands-on approach and a commercial perspective, to partner successfully with other Neighbourly employees to support the Companys objectives. Responsibilities Provide general corporate and commercial legal advice, execution and coordination relating to general corporate and commercial matters, acquisitions, leasing, securities, regulatory and employment law, working closely where required with existing external legal advisors; Work with external legal advisors as required, and managing Neighbourlys legal expenses; Responsible for the central management of Neighbourlys material contracts; Provide legal advice and guidance on a variety of issues that arise in the companys day-to-day business; Negotiate and draft various corporate and commercial agreements related to Neighbourlys business; Manage actual or threatened litigation, together with external counsel, as required; Stay up to date with developments in relevant Canadian laws, and act as a resource for other members of the Neighbourly team; and Assist Neighbourlys Corporate Secretary with respect to board and governance matters, as may be required from time to time. Qualifications & Skills Minimum of 4 to 5 years of corporate law experience, ideally at a full-service law firm or medium to large company. Law degree. Good standing with the Law Society of Ontario. Ability to recognize and resolve complex legal issues in a practical manner. Ability to work both independently and effectively as a member of multi-disciplinary team and concisely and effectively communicate legal issues to members of the team. Ability to prioritize and work on multiple matters in a dynamic environment. Excellent writing and communication skills. Significant experience and knowledge of legal concepts, complex commercial contract development, and contractual/business risk analysis. Well-organized with good attention to detail. Strong interpersonal skills and a desire to work in a team oriented, open and collegial environment.
