The Opportunity Toronto Metropolitan University is seeking a forward-thinking and accomplished leader to serve as Assistant Vice-President, Research Partnerships and Commercialization. In this influential role, you will be responsible for advancing TMUs national and global research profile by expanding strategic partnerships, securing high-impact funding opportunities, and driving the commercialization of research. With a mandate to lead the universitys institutional research and business development strategy, you will inspire and lead a dedicated team focused on building meaningful connections between TMU researchers and external partners, funders and innovation opportunities. Leveraging your deep understanding of innovation ecosystems and national and international funding landscapes, you will identify and pursue high-impact opportunities to accelerate the growth of TMUs SRC activities and champion innovation and commercialization. A central focus will be the oversight of advancing initiatives that translate research into real-world impact through intellectual property development, startup creation, and industry collaboration. This position also holds responsibility for shaping and supporting pan-university initiatives that connect research to real-world challenges and opportunities. Qualifications To help us learn more about you, please provide a cover letter and resume describing how you meet the following required qualifications: Completion of a professional or Masters degree in Business Administration or a related field. Completion of a PhD is considered an asset. Minimum of 10 years senior leadership experience in large-complex organizations, including responsibility for business development and/or supporting start-up companies, R&D, entrepreneurial, and/or innovation activities, including development of intellectual property. Equivalent experience or a combination of equivalent experience and education may be accepted in place of education. Experience in post-secondary institutions leading business development initiatives, including work with accelerators, incubators, and commercialization supports. Proven ability to lead large-scale, concurrent projects, and manage high-performing teams in complex, matrixed environments. Established track record of delivering results through strategic planning, project execution, business development and alignment with institutional priorities. Skilled in identifying, cultivating, and managing strategic partnerships across public, private and non-profit sectors. Demonstrated success building and maintaining strong collaborative relationships with leaders in government, business, industry, and other internal/external stakeholders, including thought leaders. In-depth knowledge and experience navigating global research and innovation ecosystems, with an understanding of international funding opportunities, partnerships, and commercialization pathways. Deep understanding of the Ontario/Canadian innovation economy, including investment capital, commercialization support networks and programs, organizations and associations related to target sectors, and sector-related research and commercialization activity.
