Position Summary Canbar Steel Fabricators Ltd is a manufacturing company that has served residential, commercial and governmental clients in locations throughout Alberta since 1977, providing fast, efficient and accurate steel fabrication, bending and cutting of rebar, welded wire mesh, loop ties and more. Reporting to the Branch Manager, the Senior Rebar Estimator, based in Calgary, Alberta will be responsible for estimating the rebar qualities and job costs of commercial and industrial construction projects. Position Functions * Analyze project documents to prepare accurate costs and rebar estimates * Generate contract sales to meet or exceed budget (cold calls and follow-up on quotes) * Investigate & acquire tender documents for upcoming projects * Negotiate contract sales with clients * Maintain quotation tracking by following up and investigating the status of all projects bids * Work closely with administrative staff to create & manage contract and drafting office files including contract revisions * Investigate and communicate any potential sales opportunities * Sourcing and gathering pricing for special order materials * Work closely with Sales, Production, Installation and Safety to ensure they are fully aware of the project scope for estimation purposes * Reviews scope of work, specifications and addendums for respective projects to ensure accurate breakdown of material as required. * Make changes to estimates as required. Preferred Qualifications * College diploma in civil engineering, drafting or estimating * Minimum of 5 years of experience as a rebar estimator, combined with 3 years of rebar takeoff experience * Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD, Rebar CAD, Blue Beam and MS Office * Experience with aSa estimating software is preferred * Ability to multi-task and work on multiple estimating bids or sales quotes concurrently * Strong negotiating skills with a passion for winning * Highly autonomous, creative and innovative thinker * Demonstrated ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, electrical, production and mechanical blueprints * Understanding of general construction practices (specifically concrete construction) * Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
