Our client is looking to fill the role of Regional Political Communications Officer for their northern offices located in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. This role will entail providing political and communications advice, assistance and support to the Regional Executive Vice President and the Regional Council. Aside from the experience required to be effective in this role, the ideal candidate will be knowledgeable and passionate about regional economic, social, political and labour issues. This person will be agile with the ability to write content that will be communicated both internally and externally to various regional, political and social justice organizations and groups as needed. Duties and Responsibilities: The key job functions are: Report to and support the REVP and the Regional Council with lobbying to advance positions on national and regional topics, including the development of lobbying tools and craft materials for political action and campaigns Provide political briefings and speaking support, conduct research, provide analysis, advice and prepare reports on regional economic, social political and labour issues and their importance Form and sustain a relationship with the regional media keeping them updated on national and regional issues and organize interviews/press conferences between regional media with the REVP and other regional spokespeople Prepare public statements and press releases for media, and manage all social media and online platforms Other responsibilies as assigned Education: Post-secondary education in communications, public relations, journalism or a related field Qualifications: Valid drivers license and reliable vehicle Ability to travel throughout Northern Canada Knowledge of regonial union and social issues Knowledge of government decision making and of the Canadian political system Knowledge of media relations including the ability to establish a working relationship with and influence members of the media Demonstrated commitment to regional union principles and social justice Ability to conceptualize, design and proof a variety of communication materials Experience: Previous work with non-governmental organizations or government communications and union speakers Experience with non-governmental organizations and human rights Previous work with government relations, social justice programs, law, unions and media relations Experience working with a labour or political organization will be considered Skills: Strong political acumen Passionate, purposeful and motivated High degree of initative, tact and good judgement Curious and investigative by nature Ability to be agile with writing for different audiences Exceptional communication (written/verbal) and interpersonal skills Flexible and adaptable in nature, able to shift priorities at any given time and manage multiple conflicting priorities Problem solver with the ability to make informed decisions and think critically Ability to work effectively autonomously, as well as a part of a team Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail Ability to plan and organize in order to meet deadlines Base Salary:$110,000 125,000 per year Eligible for a yearly isolated post allowance (IPA) Work Hours: Full-time hours Remote Work: This position is not remote and required to be on-site.
