Travel: Required within Canada & USA Job Overview: We are seeking a skilled and experienced PLC Programmer to join a leading manufacturer of large hydraulic presses, automated press lines, and integrated die handling systems. This role is ideal for a hands-on automation professional with a strong background in PLC and HMI/SCADA programming, industrial networks, and motion control systems. You will be instrumental in designing, programming, troubleshooting, and commissioning automation systems used across the automotive, aerospace, consumer goods, and industrial sectors. Key Responsibilities: Develop and implement PLC programs using Rockwell Studio 5000 (CompactLogix & ControlLogix) and Siemens Step 7 / TIA Portal platforms. Design and configure HMI and SCADA interfaces for operator control and system monitoring. Read and interpret electrical schematics to support panel diagnostics and troubleshooting. Integrate, commission, and troubleshoot motor drives, including VFDs, servo motors, and soft starters. Program and test Category 4 safety processors according to industrial safety standards. Configure and troubleshoot industrial communication protocols including Ethernet/IP, Profinet, and Modbus TCP. Apply PID control concepts for motion applications, including tuning and optimization. Support automation systems in both standalone machines and fully integrated production cells/lines. Collaborate with mechanical and controls teams to ensure seamless system integration. Communicate effectively with internal teams, customers, and field technicians. Use standard Microsoft Office tools for documentation, reporting, and communication. Travel as required for system commissioning, customer support, and troubleshooting. Required Qualifications & Experience: 3+ years of hands-on experience programming Rockwell Studio 5000 PLCs (CompactLogix, ControlLogix). Strong understanding and experience with HMI/SCADA development. Proven ability to commission motor drives, VFDs, servo systems, and soft starters. Familiar with safety PLCs and safety-rated automation programming (e.g., SIL or ISO 13849 standards). Skilled in configuring and troubleshooting industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus TCP). Knowledge of PID control loops, tuning, and real-time system response adjustments. Understanding of automation control principles, electrical components, and machine safety standards. Willingness and ability to travel within Canada, USA, and internationally. Legally authorized to work in both Canada and the USA. Preferred Skills: Exposure to mechanical design principles and material handling concepts. Familiarity with robotic material handling systems. Experience in hydraulic and pneumatic motion systems. Background in automation within sectors such as automotive or aerospace manufacturing.
